hey JMK I have the same set up with a box on top of a high roof. I got a folding step ladder from can tire 19$ folds flat stows neatly under the bench seat or when the seats up the ladder slides between the seat and the side of the van. doesn't rattle or fall over, it works perfect no harness required!

ive got a huge pod 21 skybox on the roof of my van, and was worried about fuel economy,
it hasnt changed, I atribute it mainly due to the fact that it is the most areodynamic peice of my vehicle. and at the speeds i most commonly cruise at 80-90 kmph it does not block extra wind, either that or the front of the brick has already deflected the airflow up over the box already :-D

Hi All,
The hitch baskets we've seen are at Princess Auto (http://www.princessauto.com). The Port Coquitlam one is by Ikea. They often have them on sale for well under $100. The only one I could find in catalogue is item 8137986 Cargo Hauler with Z Shaped bar, weight 33 pounds, cost $84.99 20x53 inch, capacity 500 pounds.fits in 2 inch square reciever. In the past saw one made with heavy metal mesh which folded up in half like butterfly wings (yes it would impede the door opening). I agree with Kevin that the rear door opening is essential for camping in the rain.

For canoe carrying We use foam wedges from Mountain Equipment Co-op, tied down with the MEC green v-shaped tie-down straps (saves having to remember how to tie the bowline, which way round the tree trunk did the bunny go), have used them on gravel roads, drove the kettle valley roads and nary a load shift. Hmmm, now how to tie the canoe over the filled roof rack, hadnt thought that far ahead.

The arguments FOR the roof basket are very compelling. Does anyone else want one (could put a few inside).

The TardisDeli could go to Bellingham next weekend Feb 23/24. Kevin, confirm with me Monday or Tuesday 18/19Feb via pm if you want to then order (and include a phone # in case I get there and have a question).

Does anyone know if the Cdn Tire rack is a stock item that I could touch before going to Costco to see if similar quality ? We live near the big new Cdn Tire at Byrne Road and Marine in Burnaby.

Cheers, Christine. :M

Email sent Christine, thanks.

Check out the happy owners of new $60 racks at here - www.expeditionportal.com. I would so have to get a pair of those 'quick fist' things, and get my shovel out of my van.

Damn, those do look like nice solid racks. Mine has a lot of flex and the sides are not nearly as high.

Hi Kevin BCDelica, I just sent you a PM. If you can co-ordinate the group order, I will pick-up from Costco next Saturday 22 February. Cheers Christine of the TardisDeli.

I can't find it on the Canadian Tire website at the moment but you can (could?) also buy an extension kit for this rack that extends its length around 6"-8" or so. Rack unbolts in half, slip in extension, bolt back together.

It looks like Costco has removed the item from their site, hope it didn't sell out.

Does anyone know where I can buy a roof rack to fit a delica (moon roof)... all i want to do is carry a canoe. Canadian tire sells some for a about 200 bucks... but i am not sure if these fit. Has anyone bought a good rack to carry a canoe?

thanks in advance

I bought YAKIMA 1A HIRISE RAINGUTTER TOWERS from a seller on eBay for $130.00:

4 1a raingutter towers (used) MSRP: $140
1 hi rise conversion 1a tower (new!) $40
pair of 48 inch bars (used) $60
4 brand new locks+4 keys $60

The sellers name is "ericrawdad" : crawfoer@onid.orst.edu

Doesn't look like he has anything listed at the moment but you may be able to email him, he does a lot of rack stuff by the looks of it and he can modify the orders.
