First, being diesel, it is better than comparable sized gas engine in three out of five pollutant categories. It is tied (over the life of the vehicle) in one category, and worse in one (but not the one that contributes to ozone depletion). So just the fact that it is diesel means it is better for the environment than a similar gas van.konadog wrote:It is better for the environment...I don't know, I mean I love my bus, really I do, but have to ask what it is better than? Reusing an old vehicle is good, and converting to burn wvo is even better, but don't kid yourself - it's an environmental nightmare
Oh well...
Second, if you do SVO or WVO (we're not there yet, but it's in the plans for a future mod) you are more or less carbon neutral, because the carbon you cause in burning the fuel is offset by the growing of the fuel, and if it's WVO then it a double plus.
Like Green1 said, if you're comparing the deli to a bike or a kei car, then yes - environmental nightmare (in comparison). But we have five kids. We have to have a seven seater, and the delica is one of the best options out there for the environment. We actually considered simply selling our minivan and going transit and car co-op, but after researching it proved to be way too expensive for seven of us to do that.
At least that's my understanding, but I'm sure many know better than I!
