I did mine myself with some pro stuff from Walkers. They supply paints and stuff for shops. Took one can (1 quart) which cost $60.00 - Proform 2.6 VOC Truck Bed Protective Coating (PF745C)
I used a brush rather than a roller. Went on very nice and dried pretty quick. It's amazing how thick you can put it on if you want. I did 2 coats. Took off the surface rust, used POR-15, Then the proform stuff.

I would cut the metal, weld a patch, the roller the roof in rust paint. Cheap and affective.

Rolling doesnt work it just wastes it in the roller and its impossible to put it on even that way.

As the roof rusts from the inside out I's say go with rust proof paint on the interior side of the roof and rhino on the outside. Along with patching it seems like a good durable option. That's my big project for the springtime.

I saying skip the Rhino line...I do not see the need unless you treat the roof like a pickup box. Roller on some tremclad and be done with it.

I just like the look and the cheap nature of the rhino liner. It's by no means a necessity. Either way I would say rust proof the inside though as that's where the problem originates. "The best offence is a good defence"

I use my vehicle on gravel roads, through trees and stuff.
I don't have headliner rust but I did have pinpoints on the exterior from rocks down
the roads... Tremclad won't stand up to that and I shouldn't need to put any more
coats on it unlike paint. I actually used a clear box liner coat on my front over the
white to help with those dings from rocks.
