if your glow plugs are actually on for 30 minutes they will burn up, so good thing the relay turns them off, the second click is the relay shutting off.
when i am searching for the source of an oil leak i put cardboard under the motor when i park the vehicle and later look directly up from the stain into the engine area and follow to find the source.
are you sure its engine oil and not fuel?
i think oil usually leaks more when its warm and thinned.
just my $.02

Re: Oil Stains
rdub, after the initial start it fires up every time.
I have been putting cardboard under all parts of the deli to see what kind of fluid and where its commin from. Its deffinatly not fuel, and its SUPER black. So that leaves oil, tranny fluid, and break fluid? But the build up is right behind the oil pan.
i had a heater on the oil pan over night. The engine still didn't fire up with out me reving it but its alot smoother when starting.

Re: Oil Stains
Patty,
Take a look up at the back of the valve cover. Chances are it could be coming from that point as its the worst place to seal . That lil half moon depression is usually the root cause of the leaks at the rear of the cover. If its all oily up in that area , wipe it down and run it normally - a trip to Timmies n back should be sufficient. Take another look and see if the area is oily again. The other leaky area could be the turbo.
As far as being tranny or brake fluid - if either of these fluids show up black....well when I took Home -Ec in High Skool, black mean ya overcooked something. Good Luck

By the time you realize that my signature has no real message or life altering words of wisdom, you're too far into it to stop reading until you are finished

Re: Oil Stains
haha yeah i don't think its either of those fluids, im more then sure its oil. At first i thought it was the turbo, but when i looked at the turbo itself there was no oil on it. Also i didn't think oil even went any were near the turbo(thought it was just recirculating the exhaust) ill check this half moon seal you speak of, i sure hope your right!
thanks for not repeating anything!

Been following this thread
First thing is that if you have to nurse it to life in the morning like you say you do, then you have a problem that you should adress sooner than later. If it is an issue now it'll be chronic at -20.
Second, i agree that the back of the valve cover gasket is a great place to look for a leak, but so is the rear main, which is the seal between the engine and the tranny, you say it leaks from that area, i would suspect a rear main issue if you are getting large puddles forming. And yes oil is black, brake fluid is clear'ish , and tranny fluid (should be) red.
Also FYI, the turbo does indeed have oil near it. It uses it to cool itself, while it spools away generating all kinds of heat. Delicas almost all have some sort of oil residue around the turbo. It is easier to see from beneath looking up at the turbo/ wastegate assembly, lying on your back behind the front right wheel.
Hope you find whats ailing you. good luck.
