My ladder lets me get up there, but the rack prevents me from removing most of it. The snow brush gets the sides, but the centre under the ammo cases is pretty much inaccessible. Given the 1" clearance between the rack and the roof, even the flat brush has trouble. On the other hand, that snow isn't going to move either. And I clean the rest of it off.
<rant>I really do wish the cops would ticket more of those idiots who jump in, turn on the wipers, and drive off. Huge piles of snow in front of them, completely frosted windshield that isn't covered in snow, and all lights covered. Ya, nail them for "without due care and attention". </rant>

Just cause the city has a hard time maintaining roads doesn't mean that you shouldn't care about the state of your vehicle, I would consider this to be more of a reason to make sure it's safer and not more of a hazard on the road.. It does make a difference Yes maintain a safe distance, I understand that. But also keep your eye on the road a couple cars ahead so you can anticipate, being able to see really helps.tomanique wrote:Their time and resources would be better spent having the 18 wheelers clean off their trailers, including the encrusted ice/rock/salt bombs that drop off on the highways then refreeze and sit there like a boulder just waiting to be hit by a vehicle not much bigger than the lump itself. Those are the amounts of snow that can really do some damage. The point is really moot though when you live a city/province that can't even keep the roads maintained properly. What difference does a personal vehicle's roofload a snow make? None. And if you're troubled by the snow coming off the car ahead of you, I'd suggest you're not maintaining a safe distance with the vehicle ahead of you, something all drivers should be doing more of in this weather.
Merry Christmas, enjoy the snow while it's here

Your right, it's up to you to keep a safe distance, I feel bad for all those truckers that have to tie down their loads or put at tarp over it because people don't stay far enough back to avoid the flying rocks, bricks, lumber, and what ever else. But on a serious side, yes I think it is up to you to be safe and you shouldn't be able to sue because you burnt yourself with your hot coffee, but that doesn't mean it's ok for you to run around swinging and knife or a bat as people should be keeping a safe distance from you does it? my examples are a little on the extreme side but you should get the point :)tomanique wrote:Their time and resources would be better spent having the 18 wheelers clean off their trailers, including the encrusted ice/rock/salt bombs that drop off on the highways then refreeze and sit there like a boulder just waiting to be hit by a vehicle not much bigger than the lump itself. Re: Snow Covered Roof!
I don't remember saying anything about not caring about the state of my vehicle and it's not just the city it's the whole damn province. I clean my windows and roof, but not because I'm worried about a bit of fluff flying off my roof. The hazard, IMHO, is hitting your brakes and having the whole pile come sliding forward down on my windshield, blinding me. Thanks for the driving tip of looking a couple cars ahead, I'll try keep that in mind.Muzzy wrote:

And loki, I'm sorry but you lost me there with your bat swinging, coffee drinking, brick flying post.
To sum it up again...the snow off a roof of a car does not add anything more but a miniscule amount to the snow already on the road. If you're affected by debris(be it snow or anything else) coming of the vehicle ahead of you, back off to a safe distance. Not only is it common sense, it's also the law: BC Motor Vehicle Act Part 3 Section 162
Cheers

A friend of mine was killed by a huge steel pipe that fell off a truck and crushed her - she was a safe distance from the car in front of her but the truck lost its load as it was passing her... And when the roof-top blankets of snow freeze into blocks of ice and come flying off the roofs of moving cars they are a hazard to pedestrians (forced to brave the roadways 'cause sidewalks are seldom cleartomanique wrote: If you're affected by debris(be it snow or anything else) coming of the vehicle ahead of you, back off to a safe distance.
