That's about right. 18-20 inches longer on the outside. 12 or so inches longer on the inside.

thanks for the numbers...but I think people were (or at least I am) more interested in the interior dimensions...

Re: L400, Long wheel base or Short wheel base?
Here you go
The rear shoulderbelts are in the same location for SWB/LWB so the extra space more so is gained in the middle (between the seats) unless you move the rearmost seat forward on the sliders.
The SWB looks just like our Delica's. The LWB adds about 12 inches of more space lengthwise in the entire van.
Because the seats are on sliders, you can expand/compress the cargo space on both the SWB and LWB to the same size.
When I drove them, the SWB felt more agile and shorter (which it is).
The wheelbase is a bit longer on the LWB as well so that adds to the 'feels like a longer vehicle' while driving.
It comes down to personal preference.
You guys will see. Some will like the SWB's and some the LWB's.
I preferred the SWB out of the two.

that doesn't really answer how the interior length differs from that of an L300... or even what the total available interior length is of one or the other...

Re: L400, Long wheel base or Short wheel base?
Pulled these from mdocuk
According to the handbook the LWB Internal dimensions are L=3050, W=1575 and H=1275 (Lo-roof) and H=1310 (Hi-roof)
just measured LWB royal. crystalite
tailgate to back of captain seats when right back 1500mm
tailgate to back of captain seats folded/right forward 2250mm
back of sliding door opening totailgate 1600mm
sliding door opening 800mm
rear seat base hight 320mm
rear seat back hight 690mm
captain chair base hight 320mm
captain chair back hight 740mm
between rear arches 1000mm
between rear seats when folded 1070mm
tailgate opening hight 1190mm
tailgate opening width (max) 1210mm
floor to bottom of side windows 620mm
floor to top of side windows 1170mm
hight to top of folded rear seats 970mm
I have been off road with a long wheel base and they can cut it,
down to choice... but a SWB will always fit in a regular parking space....
if you need plenty space, kids, big dogs... loads of crud... LWB
otherwise SWB
and IMO the crystalite roof is a must !
I'm a happy owner of 1 x pram, 1 x big baby bag, 1 x fold-up push chair, toolbox & toy bag - all of which are all in the boot and 4 x kids .... and when out and about with the above and the misses we still have two spare seats.
If you are a family man you'll love the LWB.
Biggest downside I guess is the 15 point turns you need to master to get into a car parks standard size parking space
Our LWB is fantastic the only thing is parking like everyone says,, however if you are prepared to walk that bit further where there are less cars it is much easier, in the local car parks i am able to pull straight through most times and sit there lording it over the uneducated amongst us !
And it's not just in the Royal Exceed. Mine's a Super Exceed.
The only drawback it that it's a tad longer than most parking spaces.
About the height - you will almost certainly want a high roof - Mick is 6'2" and when we were looking for our Deli we sat in a low roof version and his head was brushing against the headlining!

Re: L400, Long wheel base or Short wheel base?
Jessie, once both our vans are in and the actually on the road, we should get together and take some picts/video of them side by side, undercarriage and such, and if we do it in Langford, a Friend of mine has an proper RTI ramp, we can ramp them and see what sort of articulation is on them, I know i have to go with a longer set of shocks on mine, Im thinking external res ones as the 9000's only go so far, but I do have the compressor and gauge pod for the rancho 9000s with them so i would like to keep that for the ride controll, but not sure if I want to put shock extenders on, or just go full on external res.... good thing the big summer sale is coming about the same time as my ...Oops, the wifes
van gets in.
Maybe we could make a afternoon of it, and have anyones Delica come and ramp to see how they do.
for those of you who would like to ramp, or to know what ramping is, here is a link to a ramp day I found on U tube. you go forwards and then backwards until one tire looses traction or comes off the ground. its a good way to find out what your limits are, and what is limiting your van with out the cost of trail repairs, Usually its the length of shock,

Saw plenty of L400 Delica in Australia recently, and they were all the same length – but still can’t decide for certain which length they all were. LWB?
Shame I didn’t get a picture of the two L400’s spotted with a spare secured above the front bars on the hood.

- One of the little silver boxes in background is our rental. These Wicked Camper are really rough, but reportedly run like a top. Next time..

- My only L400 picture last week, they certainly look better in person.

if the middle and rear windows were the same length it's LWB, if the middle window is about twice the length of the rear window it's SWB– but still can’t decide for certain which length they all were. LWB?

Also if you look behind the sliding door between the door and the wheel arch.
If the door looks like it forms part of the wheel arch it is a SWB if there is about an inch or so between the door and the arch its a LWB.
But don't forget as well as length there is the height options to choose from.
Low roof and high roof as with the 300, but there is also the SWB high roof without the crystal lites or sunroof like mine and there is LWB with solid roof too

Do any of the L400s come with sliding doors on either side?

There are some 2WD L400's about being used as buses with sliding doors on both sides.

Re: L400, Long wheel base or Short wheel base?
I'm just used to the Dodge Caravan with dual doors. Makes life easier and less chance of getting plowed into on a street.
Speaking of Dodge Caravans...how does the size of a L400 compared if parked side by side? Pretty close ...smaller...bigger?
I'm giving up on the L300 idea as I'm loving the L400 much more.

Re: L400, Long wheel base or Short wheel base?
The Swb ones are more like the caravan for size, and more headroom clearly , if you go with the highroof...suddenly i feel so dirty talking about comparisons between a Caravan and a L400 Delica... I have to stop thinking of this, I need to go take some pepto ....
