Hey Larry
Did you end up going ahead with it ?
I'm going to either go your route or 3M film from parts shop DIY.
Especially now that the cost of headlights for L400's are quite exuberant.

I'm sure the Prairie folk would appreciate the extra protection. If you've never replaced your windshield or repainted your hood/front-edge-of-roof/grille, then you've not lived on the Prairies for any more than a couple of weeks!

I got my van done in December. I got the front and lights done. They also had a package that would do the A pillars and above the windshield if you wanted. I'm really happy with it so far. The only problem I have is seeing the rock chips under the film and how many I got before I had the job done. As I ended up being the only one to have it done they did all the cutting by hand. It still was a good job but nobody else will benefit from their time.

In rough numbers the installed price is as follows:
Front $300
Lights $100
A pillar above windshield $180
All values are taxes extra.
It took the guy about 2 hours to do the work. I left it overnight to make sure it was cured before it was out in the cold.
