It's funny how different communities have different reactions. I have a lifted Jeep Cherokee and there is not a single lifted Cherokee that goes by without a wave or a thumbs up. Even more than when I was on my motorcycle.

On my way home yesterday... a wave and an enthusiastic smile from the Rover Mini directly in front of me and an acknowledged nod of the head from a Pajero driver on Oak Street. I think most recognize the community of RHD's and Delicas. It's just plain ol' fun.
Hope is not lost...

I still wave and/or high beam. Maybe a 50% return.

Well there you go. I think I will keep/restart waving then. But do I expand to all RHD? Seems like a lot of the responses are for the all RHD wave over just the Delica-only wave. I'll have to run the numbers

Since my hubby and I are new Deli owners we're very big on the wave. Our other vehicle is a New Beetle and other Beetle owners are quite wave-y too (we've noticed the brighter colored Beetles are more likely to wave than say the black ones!). It's nice to have such a community feel with both our vehicles.
Our wave return rate has been at least 98% here in the Comox Valley - lots of Deli's around here and their owners are very friendly! :)

I always leave the red ones for last..... It's just a phase. The wave is here so long as someone is waving, and the wave starts with you... smiles.

There aren't so many RHDs in Calgary, so the wave still happens frequently. Don't let it die. If I'm not in my Deli, I give RHDs a thumbs-up.

Since I'm in Ontario and we hardly have any Delica's, we've replaced the wave with an expression like this:

The wave is alive on my bus.
My 4 year old daughter makes a great spotter for other "Goofy Vans" , I'll flash my lights to oncoming Delicas on the highway, honk as I'm passing you. I almost always get a return gesture of some kind.

That actually just brings back a fun memory when a Delica Driver passed me on the No. 1 westbound towards Vancouver somewhere between Abbotsford and Surrey one Sunday evening (about 6 months back) at - what I would assume was full throttle (ok, it's a diesel... no throttle... let's try "pedal to the metal" - speed) and while passing had the biggest grin on his face and kept on vigorously pulling his "imaginary horn-rope" (like the steam locomotives have - or big rigs)... Of course we had a good laugh and waved and flashed lights and all the rest of it... It's always fun....

Thursday, July 9, 6:45 PM westbound on Powell in Vancouver. I was in my SX4 driving behind a grey over black high roof Exceed with a ladder when I spotted another oncoming green on silver Delica. I was looking at both to see an action and guess what? No action. Nothing. No any indication they saw each other. So, this time the Delica Wave was definitely dead.

This is very similar to the action I get from the Mexicans. It has also gotten me out of paying a bribe here and there!
