Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

he's good, but the tow bill to get the vehicle there is a real killer! (and with only a month and a bit left until my new delica arrives, not worth it!)

well... now I've done it...

So I can confirm that the problem was the crankshaft pulley, it basically fell off in my hand once the belts were loosened...

unfortunately I've now made matters worse.

The fellow whose house I had broken down in front of was rushing me, and I let him rush me... as a result I didn't pay enough attention to what I was doing, the vehicle started well, I did a U-turn to head home, and lost my power steering again, at the worst possible time. I ended up crashing hard in to a curb which destroyed my right front rim, possibly the tire, definitely the alignment, and who knows what steering components.

The vehicle also now refuses to start, though I can't fathom why, the starter motor is obviously spinning, but it doesn't seem to be spinning the engine with it... don't know if it managed to become dislodged somehow?

Either way, I'm thinking this is getting beyond my expertise, and I can't imagine spending the kind of money on this thing now that I would need to to get it going properly again....

I'm really stuck for ideas on what to do next, I might be able to do without the Delica until my next one gets here, but then what do I do with this one now??? I really want to get some of my money out of it, and there has to be a better fate for it than pick-ur-part, but I really don't know what to do anymore...

Be a man and fix it! You have come this far... why quit now?? Could turn out to be cheap... maybe just the tow cost + a couple hours labour at a diesel shop. Like you said, its basically worthless unless it's in running condition. :M

Not very sensitive, eh? Sorry to hear about the break down. There are few things more stressful than a potentially serious mechanical problem with one's Delica. We just have too much emotionally invested in these vehicles to brush it off. Believe me, I've been there.

There's more to it unfortunately, If the vehicle was otherwise running well I would agree, but the vehicle runs piss poorly at the best of times, and I'm pretty certain that THAT problem is not going away short of a new engine. As a result we're talking about a minimum of several hundred dollars to effectively extend the life a month and a half (when my L400 arrives), at which point it may not actually affect the resale value anyway due to the bigger underlying issue.

Anyway, I gave up and had AMA tow it home for me, I don't have time to do anything with it today or tomorrow, but I will investigate it further on Sunday. Wish me luck.

I certainly know that feeling! I had already purchased my Delica, and it was being shipped over from Japan when the mothership sensed it was being replaced. In short order it needed a new exhaust system. Then the alternator went the afternoon before my significant other went into hospital for an operation -- took taxi to and from hospital. Kirkham did their usual above-and-beyond and replaced the alternator by that afternoon.

Couple of days later it turned out the alternator took out the battery.

So I feel for you. Don't have any technical advice though :-(

ok, well my crankshaft pulley bolt and washer are completely missing... :shock:
Is this something I can source locally? or do I need a "special magic mitsubishi bolt and washer" to replace these?

It's probably metric, but other than that it shouldn't have excessive magical powers.

Only because it's Sunday, and your stuck, try Parts Source or Canadian Tire, they both keep a minimal amount of Metric bolts, and nuts. Best to take the pully with you to make sure the thread count is correct, and the bolt long enough, with a head small enough to not hit the side of the pully for tightening.
Good luck, and don't sweat knowing you may be in over your head, you'll either learn how to swim or call for help and get it.

Best to take the pully with you to make sure the thread count is
problem is, the pulley isn't threaded, it's the crankshaft that is threaded (a part that is much harder to take with me)

Anyway, I did a closer examination, and it turns out that the key-way on the crankshaft pulley is destroyed, and the key on the crankshaft is broken too, so it's more than a bolt that I need.

With the overall condition of the engine at this point, I'm not going to repair it.

I'm going to sell the vehicle "as-is" and hopefully someone with more mechanical ability than I will bring her back to life again. I have already had one person express some interest, so we shall see.

Bummer. For want of a 1$ bolt and a washer you'd have to spend a couple hundred dollars to repair that. Hopefully your next ride is not nearly as problematic as this one has been.

your L400 left japan already, in transit now will be here 1st week of nov.
will try to do all the service for your L400 rightaway when it arrived.
all parts & other thing to comply for this vehicle is all in hand. so just wait for few will be here soon;
