Out here in small town Manitoba, chips are $30 for the first, and $10 for each after that, But we can get glass coverage on our insurance, then chips are free. It's about $150 extra, but it also lowers your deductable from $500 to $200. I have about 30 chips per year, so the extra coverage is a must.

roi baht ... wow, seems cheap even by Thai standards.
Think it was Standard Auto Glass on Gov't st. that fixed my "rock star" a few yrs. ago for $50.

For the Calgary and area owners. Economy Glass on 17ave SW (The Red Mile) charges $30 for the first and $10 for each additional, and does a fine job. Just had three done in my work van, and if I didn't know where they were, I couldn't find them again.

well SOMETHING must've changed.
last time i had a windshield chip i took it in and showed them my insurance with glass coverage.
i signed a form for ICBC and paid nothing.
im almost tempted to just buy a kit, and fix it myself...

Yes, ICBC changed that rule quite a while ago. Rock chips used to be covered to avoid windshield replacements when chips migrated into cracks. ICBC must have done the number crunch and figured it was better to push the cost back to the owner and/or allow the chips to become cracks and pay their part of the replacement and owner pay the deductible.
Sadly - I found out myself last year.

I always just buy the $5-10 DIY repair kits. Easy and works pretty well...like you can kind of see where the repair was but the cracks never grow.

Today I had a rock chip in my new L400 windshield repaired, $20 (including tax) at Windshield Surgeons in NE Calgary... Chip repair comes with a warranty, and seemed to do a pretty good job too, as I can't seem to find it anymore!
The guy doing the repair also said the windshield looked familiar, he thinks the same one might be found on a domestic mini-van as well (but he can't be sure as he has no cross reference information)

i went out and bought a repair kit from lordco.
when it warms up a bit, or i can get access to a heated garage for a few hours(unlikely), i will do a thread on kit windshield repair. its +5C today in the vernon area, but the instructions on the package says it should be at least +10c.
