My rims are 6.5... well I'll just wait till I get them and ask the shop that's going to install them if they have any concerns.
I'd suggest dropping in at several different tire shops, and just ask them, "what is the largest tire size I can safely put on a 15x6.5" rim?" After 2 or 3 you'll know what the truth is. Some will say any 15" tire, some will say only stock size is safe, others will actually give you a number. Then you can be daring and ask about the size you are thinking about.

Just did some searching, and my rims are 6". For those the largest size is 235/75R15. But with 6.5" rims you can go bigger. But too big and you have wheel well and mud flap issues.

On a particular rim, you can have tires that are too tall, and you can have tires that are too wide, or even both!

There's some pretty good discussion in this thread: http://www.delica.ca/forum/oops-i-did-i ... -6372.html

Hi All, It's so nice that this Community genuinely cares about other member safety, gold stars to everyone for Community Niceness.

Just to reassure yo'all, we met g-man1972 and his delica yesterday and chatted tires and all things delica, and I was fully prepared to Nag Nag Nag him in case, but it is OK he is very safety aware, plus his friend works at tireshop so he has good advice and price. Also, his rims are not the usual delica rims (I have only seen that rim on one other delica) so his sizes might be different.

Cheers, Christine.

If you have 6.5" rims you should pretty much be good for up to about a 30" tire, which is great, because anything larger starts to mean some form of modification to the vehicle anyway.

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd write an update on the tire situation. Got my 30x9.5x15 General Grabbers AT2 installed on the rims with no problems. Broke my puny bank on them, but happy to finally have 4 of the same tires, of the same size mounted!

First impressions on the tires is well... wow! It really shows how crummy my last ones were, first thing I noticed is that the ride quality improved greatly, almost feels like I have a new set of shocks. Not as bouncy and seems to absorbe the bumps better. Also the alignment seems better, I'm not wrestling the steering wheel on uneven pavement and, even though this is impossible and is simply my mind playing tricks on me... I have more power! Second thing is road noise, this really impressed me. With my previous set when I would hit 70Kph I would have to turn up the volume on the stereo, then again at 80, at 100 it got difficult to listen to the passanger talking... yes very loud. I thought it was a combination of wind noise and just how the beast sounded, nope, was all the tires. Now I can hear the engine when I'm cruising at 90, couldn't hear anything but tire noise before.

The tires them selves look great, big deep tread pattern that goes an inch or so up the side as well. I think they will work for any application I can get myself into, even have that snow flake symbol on the side which as I understand is required when you drive up to whistler when it's snowing. Also had my first heavy braking situation today and they gripped in the pouring rain without the smallest slip.

So the odds of anyone asking in the future for the following compairison is probably the same as my winning the lotto. But if anyone is thinking of trading in their tires which consist of two 30x9.5x15 Falcon RV and two 225/80/15 Bridgestone Duelers... go for it LOL!

Now I even have a spare tire of the same size as the rest instead of that weird one that I had under the rig to begin with.

Only thing I was debating about is that the 225/80/15 look exactly the same size as the 30x9.5x15's... even took a quick measurement and they looked almost spot on. Tempting to just go with two new ones, but followed everyones advise and went for 4. I'm sure it's the best long term decision anyway.

So, to conclude... when is it going to snow in the GVRD so I can go and play :-)

I've ridden in a Subaru Forester with rally tires mounted. The design of rally tires gives no consideration to noise, traction is all. On the highway at 100 km/h, you couldn't talk, you could barely think. But, on the mud/snow/gravel of the twisty forestry roads, you could do 90 without losing traction. It's all in the priorities.

Glad you are happy with your new tires.
