used the info in this thread to have a 2.25" exhaust installed on the cheap.
had the work done at budget brake and muffler.
asked them to reuse the old flange, and weld the new pipe as high as possible.
they also welded in a bung for pyro.

here's what $170 gets ya on a monday in courtenay.

$40 for cherry bomb
$130 for the install


I'm pleased, noticeable power increase doing hills on the way to vic tonight.
sounds more like a truck, and you can hear the turbo now!

Would love to hear how the Cherry Bomb sounds on the Delica, much like the many Cherry Bomb videos on YouTube. Do you have a camera?

I too had mine done at muffler tech. The workmanship is excellent as well as their customer service. These are racing guys and are not hacks. There was about 5 muscle/ vintage cars being worked on while I was there. They did the same set up as fexlboi on Dino. The breathing is way better as is the fuel economy. Pandora is blowing a wee bit of black smoke and it is depositing itself on the wheel making it a bit difficult to clean. Is is reassuring to see anything happening black or white smoke or and changes. No real noise changes except if I am against a Jersey Barrier and the noise is reflected back.

I put a cherry bomb turbo on our last L400 for a side exhaust at 2.5". Sounded great.

Very low at idle/cruising. Opens up and growls when the peddle hits the floor.

As far as I know it's a custom fabrication job. So I would say not worth the money unless you get it for cheap.

That makes sense, I've never pulled it off before so I don't know how restrictive it is.

It seems that dump pipes for the 4m40 do exist, and are about $200 for stainless steel.

I know this is an old thread..but I was just wondering how hard this to do yourself if you have all the parts. My girlfriend is actually welder and pretty handy so I was curious if this could be a DIY project or is better left to the professionals?

Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers!

It's not quite the same procedure..but it was helpful to see. It would be nice to have a step by step for the side exhaust, so I can really see if it's something we can undertake. If anyone has done it themselves, I would love to hear about it.
