That sounds a little steep, when I was looking in to them a few years ago for my L300 it looked like around $1000-1200 including install.

I live in Calgary i own a l400 low roof I can fit two motorcycles (trials) my mountain bikes no prob, i took 5 people skiing this winter many times all out gear etc.... I've slept in it (winter) if you want to have a chat and a closer look PM me and we'll go from there yea....

I have a Crappy Tire "Polar Pad" 250w oil pan heater on my bus as well as a block heater.
They work well to un-molassas your oil in - stupidcold!
watch the flyers as the come on sale for cheap!

Cold starting has never been a problem for me in either my L300 or L400, and while both have been equipped with block heaters, the nature of many of my trips gives me no warning, and therefore no chance to use them. Both vehicles have started down to bellow -20c without any additional heating.
In Calgary this means that on 99% of days there is no issue. The remaining 1% can be handled with a block heater (and really, those -40 days are few and far between, and it's often harder to start yourself than you delica at that temperature!) I think you'll find that the delica starts at least as well, or often better, than many newer, domestic, gas vehicles. (eg. my girlfriend's hyundai accent will barely start bellow -15c unless it's plugged in)

The webasto runs for about $1400 with the 7 day timer, the Espar is around $1200 also with a 7 day timer. I charge $600 for the install.

I love my Deli. Have slept in it lots, including 4 night over the Victoria Day weekend just passed. Several times slept in it at -3 to -5 with no issues.
I have block heater as well as inline coolant heater (installed before anyone figure out block heaters). With them, no issues. I've started down to -18 without being plugged in, but it wasn't happy. Your work's 20 min/per hour should be fine, since you will be plugging in when engine is warm, and at 6-8 hours there will still be some residual heat in the block.
Mine has been reliable over 50,000 km in 2.5 years, including a summer trip to Inuvik.
