I am hoping for a SAS upfront as well. Just to see it done on a delica.

The super exceeded is awesome, practical maybe not but who cares. Talk about a one of a kind Delica.

Who owns the Delica with SAS, last one I saw was in Port Alberni and I think a Delica.ca member had a part in the building of it. Noel maybe?

Well, lemme tell ya about today, not only did Mr Murphy show, but he invited the whole damb clan.

So what did we learn today class!!!,

#1 well, on the Sat of a long weekend all the steel shop close early, thus you spend 4 hours driving from Port Kells to Richmond looking for steel.

#2 Mistubishi never intended the Delica to go up 5 inches.

#3 if you don't pay attention to your grinder, it can cut through a power stearing line without even slowing down.

#4 your dog will find a way to get his face in the way while you're on your back working under the truck, and thinks that pushing him away is a game!

#5 getting the bolts for the rear boggie out of the frame is an exercise in futility

#6 I'm one of the only people that doesn't want SAS for a paint livery!!!

Moral of todays lesson, I don't think I'm gunna make Whipsaw!1

Started to rip out the center section today. This WILL BE a bigger project than I expected!

Been a little quiet as it's taking a lot longer than I expected. (finding parts mainly, we're having to machine a lot of goodies). But the front lift is now in. And no those are not the tire(s) that will be on the truck when finished, and yes, it is currently on backwards.. All will be clear soon. Center console nearly finished as well. Here's a little peek.

I'd love to get keen about SE installing an SAS into his front end... if only I knew what it was. Could someone please elaborate so I don't feel left out?

I think it stands for Straight axle swap,installing a rear end in the front end....

As I'm on the hunt for a new head unit and looking at all kinds of options, what did you settle on? Looks like a Pioneer? What is the unit above it...CB?

Okay, so follow-on question: why? Why would somebody get rid of the independent front suspension and swap it out for a solid straight axle?

Because IFS (independent front suspension) is great for a car or vehicle that remains on the road.

Offroad, IFS limits the articulation on the front wheels to such an extent that the vehicle ends up pitching/rolling a lot more compared to a straight/floating axle.

The L300 IFS is horrible for that. You can see it in it's limited action (travel up and down) on the members trips (whipsaw/mt vedder) and you tube.

The most common is whe the front cant flex/droop enough and the whole van sits on two wheels and looks like its going to pitch over.

Solid axle is simple, tough, reliable.... Typically you would use a Toyota front end from 1984 or one from a landcruiser (not simply as to use a rear axle unless you drive on very straight roads LOL).

Allows you to get ride of the torsion bars, no CV front end parts, way less moving parts to put power on the road, and ability to lift the Delica simply.

There are few advantages to independent front ends and lots of advantages to a solid axle (just look at most high power buggies).

If I was modifying a Delica that much for world travel I would swap both axles for Landcruiser axles to simplify finding parts (brakes ect..) in some war torn country in the middle of Africa.
