Just replaced the light bulb on the headlinner with led . Cost $7.99 plus tax . Expensive but alot whiter and hopefully will last a long time. ( don't know how much if replacing with the original )

Hey folks!

Just did a quick oil change today...cost me $40-$50 less than having it done at a shop, and it was exceedingly (no pun intended) easy. Although, whoever thought to put the oil filter where it is was obviously a little less than Mensa material.

Yesterday, I took apart the door and re-aligned the window, as it had fallen free of the front track. Easy enough job, but I needed my brother-in-law there to hold the window up while I aligned everything. It works WAY better now, and there's no wobble in it when it's 1/2 down and over 50km/h

Went to Rising Sun Imports (last week actually) for an oil change & lube. With the Amsoil dual bypass set-up it's a bit too messy for me to do (and Condo rules don't allow work on vehicles in parkade). David & Steven seem to be knowledgeable folks & very helpful & cost very reasonable. My first time there and I would definitely recommend, BTW. (There's a Tim Horton's and shopping mall across the street too; which was handy.)

My previous oil was a synthetic blend; this time it's full synthetic & I expect to run 35 - 40 K with only the hi-flow filter to be changed every 10 K. (Re-lube will need doing before then obviously but it's good to not have to worry about the engine oil!)

Finished squaring up my roof rack and safari box from Enviroimports (very sexy rack and box, no pun intended), and in the process of changing the front cigarette lighter discovered why it didn't work... the metal tip and threaded plastic end of a 12V plug was stuck in it. Cleared it out and now have working 12V power up front.

Tomorrow: Wash inside and out... gotta get the dead bees and wasps that we trapped between the crystal lite glass and the shades out.

Ordered new ball upper left ball joint, air filter, fuel filter (web cross referencing it as having a possible GMC north america part #13240032 will verify). Bought new oil for weekend maintenance schedule.

Also ordered new foglight bulbs from the web, cheapest i found in any local store was $55 hahaha, got them for 5.49 online. they are the H2-55W x511 base - hard to find.


Will be adding EGR plate this weekend and hopefully all parts come in to do the rest of the work.

And clipped my intercooler shroud to prevent rubbing on the upper rad hose:

Fishtank: Nice clean looking Frantz install! We still need to meet up at the Cdn Tire parking lot and compare notes one of these days.

Today I did my first Oil Change on the L400 with some Rotella T6 5w40 Full Synth (My Surf has used it happily for years). I was pleasantly surprised 3 times in the process.

1. Another example of good engineering for the end user. The oil filter is in such a nice easy to access location. No contortionism required. What a treat!
2. The screw on the end of the Mitsubishi oil filter that removes to allow you to drain the oil filter of oil before removing is so cool. Never seen this on another oil filter. Cleanest oil filter removal in my life.
3. Previous owner installed some kind of tricked out mini ball-valve in place of the oil plug. Simply pinch handle to release lock, then twist down and voila oil draining and not even a drop on a wrench or my hand.

Also tried to see what the $%^% might be teh cause of the never ending clunk clunk clang ting ding dang clunk clunk coming from the front end thats been there from the day I bought it but nothing immediately visible felt loose or looked unusual. Something for another day when the front is jacked up maybe...

I fixed a burned out headlamp, following the very nice, easy to follow instructions found on this wonderful forum. Also, I also waxed the van for the very first time. And I have to say, what a terrible job!! It reminds me of WIll Ferrel in Old School, "I'm streaking, I'm streaking. Whoo hoo"!!

I had a similar problem. First, I greased the front axle up. Seemed to do the job for a while. But then the sound came back. Turned out it's the Lower Control Arm bushing. (I still haven't done anything about it, but at least I know what it is.) Have a look there.

I usually think bushings when I hear a clunking from that area. I had a clunking from the front sway bar bushings, replaced those and it went away, now I have a similar clunking and I believe it's the links.

Home sick from work but feel so guilty when I sit around inside when its summer outside (thx Mom) that I dragged myself outside for a bit and installed some new speakers into the front door locations to replace the things that looked like speakers but only went bzzzzp bzzzz buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

From looking around the world wide internets is was quickly clear that for each post regarding L400 speakers there are an equal number of different answers as to what size the speakers are and what their rated impedence is. This ranged from 6" to 6 3/4" (with 6 3/4" most common answer) and from 4 to 9 ohms (with 6 ohms the most common answer). In the end I used some Kicker 6.75" 11KS65's 4ohm that I got for a nice price via a labour day sale.

Well they are definately not a drop in replacement. They were identical in speaker size to factory but the mounting point options on the Kicker 11KS65's were significantly smaller than the factory speakers. Also my factory speakers were 2ohm which doesn't really matter but it is a new one to add to the list of impedence people have posted (I think the factory speaker used are dependent on the level of the factory stereo setup which is leading to the array of different specs being posted). To make the Kickers fit I thought about making some adapter rings but then the speakers would be sticking too far out and hit the door panel grill. So since the factory grill was going to be a problem no matter what I instead mounted the speakers to the door panel grill panel directly rather than onto the factory mount on the door frame. This was done by simply removing the metal grill, removing the plastic lattice and drilling 4 new holes. Looks fine and they sound great. Such a huge improvement.

The factory speakers were essentially disintegrated.

Looks Nice! I am going to replace my front speakers with Gaurtz which I got long time ago but stored up as the original ones are bussying badly. Just have to find time doing it.
