Due to Shell not lowering their prices like the others, I used this as an excuse to try out Chevron diesel. I find that it affects the fuel gauge differently than the Shell diesel. We shall see...

Okay, I used the Chevron diesel for about three or four tankfuls, It's progressively degenerated to the sort of mileage I was getting with the Husky. I remember the guys at the Husky station telling me that they thought the Husky stations in BC use the same diesel as Chevron, where east of the Rockies Chevron allegedly uses the same Diesel as Husky. Although this is all hearsay, my Delica seems to think it's the same fuel, as certainly it's behaving the same and I've been getting seven kliks to the litre with the Chevron, like the Husky. I thought that perhaps it might have something to do with worn injectors as they do wear out, I'm told. Having said that I'm fueling at PetroCan (two times so far) and my economy is improving.

Anybody run any injector cleaners like Howes with their diesels? My Van and truck both love Shell Diesel. And both love the additives.

I use Howes Diesel Treat, occasionally I'll toss two stroke in. The DT stops gelling, typically it's been good for the Miss Lil' Bitchi. I also run 5w40 synth with nanotech graphene additive (with platelets) in the engine ~ she's a happy camper.

I use Shell diesel and either Howes or Stanadyne. Going to try two-stroke oil over the next few weeks.

Just added two-stroke this week (roughly 200:1). Made a noticeable difference to engine noise...less "clackety" (a technical term) for sure. Engine seems to be running smooth. We'll see if there's any change to mpg over the next few tanks as I've stopped with the stanadyne for now.

Hey msimps what kind of two stoke oil did you get. Canadian tire stuff or did you go to a motorcycle store. I was thinking these Japanese vans might like "Yamalube". A two stroke oil formulated for Yamaha dirt bikes. Honda has one too!

Wow!

Thank you all for being so supportive and helpful. As I baby my new Deli, I hope to provide useful tips and advice for the community. With that said, I would like to discuss the pros and cons of fuel additives. Should they be used or not? If so, do you have any recommendations?

I use Ford’s anti-gel and cetiline booster for the injectors.
It’s suppose to increase gas mileage by making things run smoother.
I heard of some guys using engine oil or two stroke engine oil. A little bit to each tank of gas.
If I fill my van or truck with Shell diesel it seems to like it more.
I don’t usually get the V-Power stuff unless I run out of additive.

I use Stanadyne almost everytime a fill up. I buy the big bottle maybe twice a year from Lordco.

I have a 95 Gen 1 Delica with a 4M40. I am a heavy duty technician by trade, working on all kinds of Diesel engine. Here is my opinion, no facts. Diesel additives are not necessary. It is true that ULSD, ulta low sulfur diesel, had a low lubricity level and could harm injection pumps and injectors. But these days the Diesel lubricates sufficiently.
And dont worry about freezing or gelling. I just drove 200+ km in minus 32 weather with no issue and no adfitices in the fuel. No cover over the radiator.
I have to mention that I use additives at times to experiment. I have used Forte and currently use enertech labs.
I live in Manitoba and use Coop fuel when it is available. Mainly because they sell Diesel at every pump.
Again that is just my opinion.

It seems the general concessious is that most Deli owners use something in their diesel. I'm looking for a product or products that will support the "overall" health of my engine. I want to help it run as clean and as smooth as possible with a little support for moderately cold weather (about -4 C). What do you think of this product:
