I'd like to see us reduce our demand. We Canadians are some of the most wasteful and frivolous people anywhere

what about roadtrips? It takes 5 minutes to fill my van, it takes 45 to charge my 18v lithium ion drill battery.
Battery exchange?

The person who can crack this will become extremely wealthy.
The best electric cars have over 200 km range on a charge now. Double that to 400, reduce the charging time from hours to minutes, build out the infrastructure, and you're in business.

one thing to note, many people tend to confuse electic and hybrid vehicles. they are completely different beasts.
A hybrid is an awful thing, successfully implementing the worst of both worlds. The stats shown about a hybrid being worse for the environment than a hummer overall are true, but imagine if you didn't have the gasoline engine in the picture! suddenly it's actually better for the environment again.
Batteries arent' good, but when you eliminate all the oil and gas that the vehicle would use in it's lifetime you get back to the point where the batteries are overall a good trade.
