Rear swing out tire carrier.
Re: Rear swing out tire carrier.
This is a great mod.
I would love to get one made but I'm getting mixed messages about the reliability of 'parkside'.
Has anyone else actually bought one? Can you comment on your experience?

No mixed message - don't bother trying to buy one from this outfit. This was a pet project that he never really got motivated to build (beyond the two or three he actually completed), even with a sizable monetary deposit.RichD wrote:This is a great mod.

Find another welding shop, one that actually outputs a product. You'll be happier in the end. And you'll have a swing-out-tire-carrying bumper for your vehicle.
And no, I'm not bitter or twisted - I'm just out 1000$.

Re: Rear swing out tire carrier.
-all the latch items are available online
-most people use trailer spindles for the hinge (cheap easy fine for Delica size tires)
Just find a good welder.
It is high on my list at the moment (I started to mod a Toyota 4runner tire swing but I did not like the mounting options due to location of the hatch and tail lights).

Re: Rear swing out tire carrier.
This project came to an abrupt halt and I'm not involved in fabricating bumpers alongside Jesse (Parkside) anymore.
Based on people/friends, Paul's experience (he gave Parkside a $1,000 deposit and will likely never see that money again), people can draw their own conclusions.
I lost a great deal of invested dollars heading into and exiting this project.
Our design is good and functional. Feel free to use the ideas if anyone would like.
If you guys need to tips, I can tell you what I know (I made the last two of these bumpers myself).
Latches are from McMaster Carr 2,000 anti-vibration/double locking. They are heavy duty and work well.
The spindles/hub are from jeeptubes.com and can hold a 35" tire, Jerry cans and a large fat man plus more. Also heavy duty.

Re: Rear swing out tire carrier.
After seeing this design, I have figured out my spare tire issue (new one too big for the holder) I will have Elllis Prescision make one for me. If anyone out there is still wanting one, I can make this happen for you. PLS pm me if you're intrested. I can't let you know costs until it's made of course.

Re: Rear swing out tire carrier.
Rich,
I have talked to both Jason at Cruisin Off Road & Gordon at Beastmaster 4x4 and both have told me they think they can do the install of their custom bumper w/tire carrier and spare fuel can holders on the Delicas.
I am hoping to get this done in the new year.

In addition when I was talking to Jesse 2 months ago about this he was telling me he might be able to weld a tire care carrier on to a hitch. I might pursue this route when I am ready to get this installed.

Re: Rear swing out tire carrier.
This could be adapted looks local and under $300!!

We could just have mounts Fab'ed up (I think you could put tube inside the original frame near the shackles to take the load forward to the frame). It would allow it to be used as a solid tow point.
Just an idea...
