Didn't notice the 4 piece rod case, 6-7 wt, strapped to my handlebars? Having lost my waterproof camera, combined with the fact we (ever so happily) wet wade, don't bring my camera fishing these waters. I'll admit I fell in once in November crossing the river, but it was awesome because I just kept fishing (no glacier waters here).
We are fishing for
Golden Mahseer, which are an incredible fish with huge strength. Most people fish Mahseer in India, but Thailand is relatively undiscovered and just plain far nicer location to fish. The first day I hooked up three times but didn't have a chance landing these large freight trains. The next day brought a couple of small 1-2 kilo Mahseer and 4 small Burmese trout, though the local boy I was fishing with hooked up constantly that day. Even he doesn't land them all, spending at least 45 mins trying and failing, to land one that looked 5-7 kilos on
7 lbs tippet.
And the season is just getting started!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tks for the pic Kevin - really enjoyed the picasa tour - you gave a really good view of Thai countryside and life. Had a friend do a bike tour in Thailand in 1992 and still raves about it. Hope to make it there one day. Keep the travelogues coming! Really appreciated.
Keep the rubber side down!

Gregg, my buddy in the picture was a Siberian guide, chasing Taimen for 5 years before moving to Thailand.
Sean you would rave about it to, heck your Buell would fall in love with the endlessy available twisty pavement that abounds.
Thanks Jon and great to see you still check up on Delica.ca too.
Wonder if Scott, Storm80y, will stop by for some exploring and caving on his way home.

Thanks Ari, there is so much country that would be a fantastic area for Delica camping! I wouldn't want to shot that shotgun though, it was crazy old and in a sad state of repair. To be honest that village chief was quite embarrassed to hold the gun, but my Thai fishing partner insisted.
You can say the 'Shaw' word now, I'm over any feelings I had towards that evil corporation.
Wish I had more funky NA shirts, like this one that sat in my closet from a family trip to Seattle years ago, the village children just love shirts like this. One night 7 kids spent 15 minutes going over the shirt front and back, and several ran home to get there interesting shirts to show me! During that trip I was shown shirts with Purdhoe Alaska and Viva Mexico, courtesy of visiting NGO's!

Got out fishing and biking again a few times, sometimes feel this is almost too good to be true. Got up last week in a nice guest house (see picture), fished from 8 am to 1 pm, rode the bike home for 250 km through mountain and stream following roads, had a nice dinner at home followed by a parent teachers meeting. Remember some great days on Van Isl years ago where we skied the morning and fishing the evening; but that's cold and I can't ski anymore....so.
Fished the same river as the last river, and a new stream, managing to catch several scrappy Thai Mahseer,
Taken from a high bridge, the small darker Thai Mahseer weigh 1-4 pounds, and the larger Golden Mahseer are over 20 pounds - and some are massive!
Fish with no english name, 'tasty fish'!
Just before our morning swim in the river, ahhhh that was nice,
My most expensive guest house in Thailand yet, was almost 30 dollars Canadian, good thing it was really nice!
Our guide on the last day, whom happily released my fish,
Any Delica.ca fishermen recognize one of my fishing partners? He caught a couple of the larger fish we could see in the stream.
This is my Thailand!!

looks awesome! I don't think I've seen kayaks that wide before.
I was just in Thailand for a couple weeks in April - briefly in Bangkok (crazy but fun for a couple days), then Nakhon Si Thammarat where my brother lives (amazing people and food! no tourists!), and then a week in Railay bay near Krabi - sleeping in the jungle and on the amazing beaches there.
Rented/borrowed various motorbikes throughout my trip, it is definitely the best way to get around and the best way to beat the heat

interesting getting used to traffic over there though

I actually really liked driving there though, everyone here drives so slow and pays no attention. There you drive fast, you pay attention, you cooperate, or you get squished
Definitely will be another Thailand trip in the next few years, plan is to check out the north, so #1 on my list for Chiang Mai is to check out Miguel's

I did a road trip and train through the whole country a few years ago. My favourite part was the north including Chiang Mai for sure.

Went through your Photostream Coaxial looking for some Southern Thai pics, but didn't find any. Nice V-Strom btw, how about bringing that over here for a ride? Did you make it all the way up to Khamon, that's a nice stretch for quiet beaches we enjoy? Krabi is high on our list as places to visit, many people rave about Ko Lanta - including a friendly Delica.ca family.
April was nice and toasty no?
Cheers

Some pics are up, haven't gotten around to uploading many from my time in Railay but some are here:

I'll have to dig up more from my motorbike exploring down south. Krabi was a cool town, riding around that whole region was fun, and Railay is a world famous rock climbing destination for good reason.
Love the v-strom! rode it around Alaska last year, heading to Yellowstone next month for a few days, and will ride it all around the western US and mexico this fall
hopefully in the next few years I'll get a chance to get back over there too and do more exploring
