So is there anyone in BC who has used snowplow lights or some other mod to get through the inspection? I'm interested to see who has done this here as obviously it's been done in other provinces.
This whole headlight thing is getting ridiculous. As a community here, we should be all helping each other out and delegating research amongst us to finally end the saga and get access to the proper lights. They are obviously available. I've been waiting for months now to import my L400 through my contact in Japan and am probably just going to go ahead and get it on the boat while I research for lights.

Anyone here speak German? I easily found a list of Mitsubishi dealers in Germany online here http://www.autoebid.com/Germany_new_car ... search.asp. I'm willing to pay long distance charges to whoever can call and figure out which dealer(s) can supply us. I'm going to talk to all my friends to find a German speaker and meanwhile will be calling myself as my experience with Germans is that many speak English quite well. Are there any other countries that anyone knows of that might have LHD lights? Let's get on this together!!

If I find any supplier you can bet I'll be posting the info here for all to see and will not be trying to make a profit as some others have been doing...

Let's get active and stick together on this.

Fexlboi spricht Deutsch. He might be able to help you. There is also "Google Translate", for that matter ~ if you can find your German site in the Google search engine it should have a page translator option right beside the posting on the search page.

On a lighter note, I remember seeing an ad for some form of language skills group that portrays a British ship that has been compromised and is sending out a distress signal; radioing "Mayday, Mayday... we are sinking..." and the signal getting picked up by the German Coast Guard, in which the German operator replies "Yah? und vhat are you sinking about?"

Falco.

My wife speaks German well enough that tourists have asked her where in Germany she is from (she has never been there!) I will talk to her and she if she is game.

people have, however ask yourself if you REALLY want to drive with snowplow lights on the front of your vehicle all the time...

I was having breaky last week and infront of the restraunt an L300 parked right in front of us , have a look, like them , dont like them, they are 100% legal, dont "flop" around and are on there very securely as I gave them a little nudge to see if they were going to point off in another direction, I was impressed with how sturdy they were mounted, I probably would have mounted them in the hoop of the bull bars, but either way, its personal preferance..

if you did that you would need to remove or put covers on the fog lights as the centres have to be below the centres of the headlights.

I've seen that method before, it's ugly, but it works... but can you even imagine how it would look on an L400???

At this point, whatever gets me on the road will do. Then when I find the lights at a non-inflated non-gouging price, I'll stick 'em on.
I do have a friend whose wife speaks fluent German. Problem is they're in Prague. But I'm going to continue on this and in the meantime anyone else who might have a German speaker on hand and an hour or two to make some calls it would be much appreciated.
Let's get this over and done with; find our own supplier so we can get on with things. We might even be able to order in bulk as a club and get some price discount or at least ensure the supplier that we have demand.
Cheers,

I've gone through Mitsubishi in Germany.

That was the whole point of this thread - where to get them.

As for cost. It is what it is.

It has also gone up since the spring, so either the demand is higher than the supply or there is a rekindled demand for a product that was collecting dust on their shelves. Whatever the case, they set and adjust the price point on parts.

You won't go to dealership (a) here to order a specific part and then go to dealership (b) to find that same part at a different price.

It's the same in Germany and most other countries I'm assuming.

I had my friend contact every Mitsubishi dealership he could find.

They are all the same when it comes to price point.

Someone else already pointed this out as well.

It's like the $1,140 Volvo oil pan. There is no aftermarket replacement. You either pay the dealership cost or you don't.

Unless you know a person that works at one of the Mitsubishi dealerships that can get a discount on parts, you will be paying the same amount as everyone else.

one thought... if we get the proper part number, we may be able to order them through mitsubishi in Canada (generally if you give them a part number and don't tell them what vehicle it is for they don't ask questions, they just get the part)

now it probably wouldn't change the price of the part itself, but it might save on tax/duties/shipping/currency conversion...

Everyone should read this post re: L400 headlights

Mitsubishi Canada cannot import these lights from Germany.

It has something to do with the vehicle not being imported into Canada via manufacturer.

If there was a way to go through Mitsu in Canada, believe me, it would have been found by now.

It's been almost a year since Spacegears started showing up in Canada.

Importers are resourceful. If there was a cheaper and easier way, trust me. It would have been done by now.

Don't you guys remember when the L300's started coming in and people were stressed about where to get LHD headlights from ? Once we found out, then it was the cost that people were complaining about.

Exactly the same thing happening now.

The only one thing that separates the two is that we found aftermarket headlights for the L300, whereas there are none at the moment for the L400's.

Brings back some memories going back a few years:

$400 seems like a lot for a simple set of headlights .

That doesn't make any sense, because they can bring in many other parts for vehicles never imported to Canada by the manufacturer. The real question is, has anyone actually tried? or is this another case of "everyone knows" therefore nobody has actually tried? (and don't try by asking them for LHD headlights for a Delica, that doesn't work, give them a part number.)

And yes, I remember well about the L300 headlights, because when I brought in mine, most importers refused to import a 1991 due to the inability to find headlights, I was told I'd be better off with the older style as they were the only ones that could be made legal...

On this site people often think something impossible until someone does it, L300 headlights, L300 sunshade fix, L300 block heater, L400 headlights, L400 block heater, the list goes on. Just because people aren't doing it, doesn't mean it's impossible, just that nobody has done it yet.

I've tried Green1. People are resourceful. If there is something you have thought of, the chance someone else thought of the same is very likely regarding headlights.

These are what I've come up with over the past year. If somebody has something to add or remove, please do so.

Mitsubishi Canada either cannot or will not import them
Mitsubishi Japan either cannot or will not import them
Mitsubishi Germany can order them
No current aftermarket assemblies available at this time
They are currently being imported to Canada

This forum has in the past a very good vibe to it and it's sprouted a close nit community.

Threads like these should be helpful. Just like those headlight threads in the past years ago with L300's.

I'm glad you have actually tried, and I'm sorry it didn't work, however from experience on this forum, and with the importing of my L300 and L400 I have to disagree with you on the "if you thought of it, so has someone else" bit... because I have been on the cutting edge of headlights on the L300, and block heaters on the L400... In both cases all the "resourceful" importers said "impossible" until someone else on the forum actually did it.

This forum is a great sounding board for ideas, and really helps people to come up with things nobody has tried before, often with great results. sometimes the most "impossible" tasks are actually quite simple.
