It'll be fine. I used to drive my toyota pickup in mud so deep it often immersed the alternator. The charge light came on of course, but once I pulled out of the muck the light when out and it's all good. A splash of coolant should do no harm.

Well, found out the old thermostat had the seal broken and jam.

So glad I found the problem.

Started the van... and it is leaking... why... why...

Is there a specific way the thermostat has to be inserted in? I am really tired of this problem now...

They can be a real headache to be sure. I can't tell you the number of times I've had the seat out to deal with screeching alternator belts. is it leaking from that joint? The thermostat has to be put in correctly, with the temperature sensitive part towards the engine. Did you replace the gasket?

Good day!

Would love to come back here and share photos and stories about Newfoundland, but I am no where near a good mood for that.

I have been noticing some burbling (again) in the overflow canister and at one point a few drops of coolant on the ground. Now the head was changed and the thermostat last summer. Now I will start with the basics. So I noticed that the rad cap has cracks in the rubber. So right there it needs to be changed. But I think I might have use a pajero part instead of Mitsu. So have been looking on the forum and I just want to confirm the L300 1992 rad cap part number.
On Delica Wiki it says

Unconfirmed rad cap
10227 - Stant regular (13psi) (Lordco?)
10327 - stant safety release.(13 psi)

Also Napa 31333

Which one is it?

Cheers

The OEM numbers are: MB660171 (original for 1989 to 1994); MR481218 (replacement).

These are the OEM numbers for my wagon (3 Oct., 1992). I would think You can cross reference these numbers to find an equivalent after market part if you can't find a Mitsubishi part. I know the thermostat opens sooner for the Paj (76.5°C) than it does for the Starwagon (82°C) ~ I don't know about the cap but it seems logical that one cooling system may have a different expansion point than the the other.
Hope this helps.

Falco.

Thank you Falco!

I knew about the pressure differences between L300 and Pajero, therefore why I am seeking the proper part.

Will try to get the part at NAPA, since I cannot wait to have it shipped from Japan. What would really help is to know which one you guys buy and where. I know I can get it at NAPA, but the guy in Corner Brook has no idea what I'm talking about.

So is the part actually 10227 for NAPA, the Stant brand?

Fred

Nevermind, found it!

So hopfully, it's the only issue for the coolant to overflow...

Me again.

Still some (very little) bubbling in the overflow.
Heat gauge stays at a quarter and will go up a little when go up a big hill. When turning heat on, the temp goes down on the gauge.
No loss of coolant.
Some smoke comes out of the rad when I remove the cap.

Would it be air trapped in the system somewhere or should I start being concern?

The only mechanic that can work on diesel engine is an hour away.

Any thoughts?

Head gasket comes to mind. A leak test is in order and fast cuze if you don't fix this now, it'll come back and bite you up the a.. hard.
Oh, i'm head of maintenance for a fleet of refuelling trucks at YVR, all diesels of course. Take my advise.
