Did the front brakes on ShaunVanRamen. A few weeks ago my mechanic said I was good for another 5-10,000km. But to my horror, half-way back from Abby, every time I braked there was a terrible grinding sound coming from the front.
Once home I took off the left front tire - brakes were OK. Still plenty of pad there. Look at the right side and WOW! The inside pad was down to metal (fortunately the rotor is OK)
Which leaves me to believe that my mechanic only looked at one side.

I already had the pads so I spent the day changing them out. The conclusion is that I should get my callipers rebuilt as it appears that the right wears faster than the left. But I will save that for a later project.

yea. I REALLY need to get my brakes done(probably all the way around too. :shock:), unfortunately due to time and money constraints due to school, I've been putting it off.
the sad thing is, is that if I wait too long, it will cost me DEARLY if I wait too long... :? :-(

Sticky calliper pistons and worn pads are one thing, but if you let your rotors get buggered the price goes up significantly.
The calliper removal is not so difficult to do (I did mine in the driveway), you will get dirty though. There would be some cost savings if you can remove them and then get someone to rebuild them for you. Just make sue of proper bleeding when re-installing.

Put the winter fronts on and decided that I should put the bash plates
back on.. Took them off for an oil change a month ago or so. Had a nice dent
in both of them.. Dent's make things difficult.

Anyway it was a good time, Ton's of snow and cold

Well, I guess it's that time of the decade: New set of boots for MLB.

Yokohama Geolandars AT/S LT235/75R15.

Big Difference. You don't realise as the tyre wears, for instance ~ when I get out I usually step off the tyre and you get used to the feel of that step, then you get the new tyres on and OMG, I feel so clumsy ~ there's more tread there. Another place I notice it is the mileage, ergo the fuel economy. The diameter has increased and the feel of driving is .... new, again. Plus ~ every time I approach the wagon there's that smell of new rubber, tres cool.

Oil change, Tranny Flush (way over due) and a new battery.

What a dif the battery makes when starting. I knew mine was getting old but...

Started to order new lower front window seals (interior). Got a bit carried away. Ended up ordering front lower inner and outer window seals, clips, felt track, interior door pulls (OMG they're still available in brown! Must buy them before someone else does!), and power window motors.

I changed the oil. I also changed the oil I was using.
Had a chat with a mate who deals with many oils and went with a full synthetic Quartz 9000 5W40.
I also added an additive: PowerMaxx High Performance Nano Engine Super Protection (with graphene)(300ml can).

It works like nano sized carbon based ball bearings that keep to the connecting parts of your engine, providing a barrier cutting down wear, &c.. Immediate observation is how the motor sounds ~ a little quieter, more consistent and overall performance, 'though it's early days yet.

I have also been cleaning the Miss Lil' Bitchi. I've washed her, waxed her, sealed her, treated the vinyl, rubber and plastic, polished the metalwork, polished the glass. One thing I've noticed is the vinyl, in particular the front shroud that covers the bambi bars, was particularly faded. The last time I treated it was Nov/Dec, last year. I've let it go for as long as a year before and it's faded ever so slightly. This time it's been three months and the shroud has faded to a light grey and when I started adding treatment to it I got this sort of stone washed jeans look, almost like some solvent, like gasoline, was spilled over it. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the brine that they are treating the roads with these days?

Installed a new 2x Din Pioneer radio/cd/usb MP3/blue tooth cell ph combo and new 6.5" front door speakers.
The unit wired up okay, much simpler than I thought. I didn't connect up the Green/white wire off the stock wiring. Everything works okay so it's not needed on this deck. Good thing the lights dim, wow they're bright.

The 6 cd stock mitsu player doesn't connect to this unit. Anyone want it??

Pioneer single DIN install

My van originally had a double DIN install but the previous owner in Japan had taken out the head unit and apparently an amp. So I've had no stereo since I got and finally got around to ordering a unit from Crutchfield last week

My new stereo arrived on Friday and everything went smoothly making the adapter plug after I figured out the Pioneer manual.

Everthing powered up but only the rear right speaker worked!!

Turns out the previous ower must have had a big amp and when they took it out they just cut the wires to the speakers. Fortunately, I still have the nice aftermarket speakers installed and just had to reconnect them to the factory harness.

Sounds pretty good, bluetooth to my phone and still have room to add some gauges.

I'll throw up some pics later

Today i got my Rad back from the shop. I asked a recore but the man said it would be a waste of money and just preformed a acid flush instead. I was fine with that since I am super broke and 45$ was a much nicer bill than 320$. Had a few trouble with the transmission cooling lines (difficult to tighten and loosen) but now the Van is back together and running well.

I was hoping my van would run cooler since my needle sits at the halfway mark when on the highway which is higher then before I had a new head installed last year. This might be due to a new temp sensor as well...... hard to say, no real difference after having the rad flushed. The thermostat is new so I am sure its not that.
Let just hope I do not develop a bunch of leaks on my 800 km drive home for the weekend!

From where I sit in the saddle I usually see only one perspective of my binnacle. One evening, I'm outside the wagon whilst the motor is running and the running lights are on, which includes the instrument cluster and binnacle. So standing on the passenger side of the wagon when it's dark outside and I realise that the face plate of the binnacle ('cause there's this really bright green light emanating from the side) is coming away from the body. It's okay... I can deal with it at a later date... :? ... really...

Well, I finally got around to it. Took it off, looked at the backside and realised that a number of screws were missing, broke out the little screw box, took everything apart, discovered that one of the plastic brackets that mounts the inclinometer had broken off from the back of the face plate. So off to London Drugs I go to fetch some Crazy Glue. Very carefully open the tube (you know how that stuff gets on everything), carefully add a little drop on the end of the mount and carefully hold the two pieces together with my right hand for one minute. I go to put it down after a minute and discover that a finger on my left hand is now attached to the front of the face plate. Not sure how this happened as my left hand had nothing to do with the project otherwise. I eventually freed my hand and I've nearly removed most of the skin that is solidly mounted on the top of the face plate.

I then found some appropriate screws to replace the missing ones. I realised that I was missing the little knob that adjusts the altimeter and freaked. I thought it out... started looking around the floor mats and lo and behold I find both the knob and the little incy-wincy screw that holds it on (that would be a hard one to find as a replacement) and put it back together ~ et voila ~ fully operational binnacle with customised piece of skin on the face plate, which is totally in now-a-days.
