The van doesn't use the same technology; I would anticipate you want to use a K type thermocouple in each case.
EDIT: you know what, if you are good with electronics, you could tune the meter to work.
If you use multiple sensors of the same class (e.g. all the low temp liquid/air thermocouples) you can switch it with a multi-pole switch.
ON/ON Switch - 6 pins: 2 out, 2 x 2 in
Position 1, Sensor 1 (e.g. external air temp).
Position 2, Sensor 2 (e.g. internal air temp).
Gauge - 2 pins for thermocouple +/- to switch output
Sensor1 - +/- to switch input position 1
Sensor2 - +/- to switch input position 2

Installed the meter in dash last night, and had a chance to check out the programming options. Pics below.
The LED brightness can be toggled manually, or automatically using the same method the clock uses to dim when headlights are on. There's a power pin on the back for the latter.
There are a LOT of programmable options, but really the basic ones are monitoring High and Low readings for the alarm. High is the alarm trigger (I set it to 1200). Low is when to release alarm (I set it to 900). There are pins on the back to trigger a relay for an external lamp, or a piezo buzzer, or whatever clever thing you might think of... I just settled for the blue lamp lighting up on the meter and didn't add anything external (yet).
Also note the peaks are monitored and stored in memory for reference. You can also track the time at peak, if you care to.
Normal mode - exhaust gas temp, in Fahrenheit (yes it supports Celcius).
Peak mode - displays the highest temp since last reset.
These things are incredibly programmable and flexible. Not only does it support temp probes and pressure probes, but Auber sent me instructions for wiring the meter for 5-30V voltmeter and ammeter applications. I love that you can repurpose the meter for whatever you want!
I'm thinking I'll pick up three more meters and a few three-way switches... then all we'll need is a Flux Capacitor.

After a few people contacted me, I have negotiated a modest wholesale deal with Auber instruments and imported some components, mainly for pyrometer kits on L300, L400 and Pajeros.
Installing these requires a bunch of additional wiring and fasteners which are expensive to buy in small quantity, so I've done some bundling to make these kits complete.
Photos to follow.
Pyro/EGR removal kit with case - $140
- Auber 1812 Meter configured as Pyrometer
- black case for meter (velcro to the location of your liking)
- EGR removal plate, pyro fitting (courtesy of Jensen at
OddBallOffroad)
- K Thermocouple, rated to 1800 F, NPT fitting

I am planning to add "turbo cool down" wiring that will keep the engine running after the key is removed until the EGT drops to a set value. Should be easy with the Auber gauge.
Yup that's stock.

I am very interested to install the pyrometer on my l400. Thanks for the post of the 1st part of the installation. I am waiting ( or can't wait...)to see your continuance for the 2nd part of it.

For those interested in doing multiple sensor/displays, there is another gauge out there, from MadMan in South Africa: the EMS or EGT.
http://www.madman.co.za/ I really like the look and the intelligent way they integrated multiple functions into 1 unit.
Unfortunately the Canadian dealer Roving Recovery seems to have gone out of business (the web domain is no longer alive), but should be able to order direct online. The second Cdn dealer Iron Goat I don't remember seeing last year when I was looking.
I've never actually seen one, so I can't comment more than what I see online.

So we did the dash install on the L400. At my urging not to make unnecessary cuts in the dash, we installed the gauge in a din plate. I made it out of a piece of 1/4" plastic cut to size plus two small blocks of marine plastic as supports. I drilled through same assembly and screwed it directly to the mounting holes in the dash. That was the easy part; cutting neat square hole for the gauge was tedious with a dremel but I've got it down to an art now.
I was so busy making the DIN blanking plate that I missed the photo op for the wiring. It's pretty routine, though. Tap the cigarette lighter with an inline 3A fuse for power and Bob's yer uncle. Jay even got fancy and hooked up the headlight pin so it dims the LEDs at night automagically. I'll get Pistachio to post pics.
I should note that I'm quickly running out of meters and about to make another order. If you want blue or green gauges (I usually get red) this is the time to ask.

So Mr Pistachio is in Lake Louise and he let the Delica sit overnight. The Auber pyrometer we installed reads -42 F. That's the kind of precision and sensitivity we're getting out of the Auber!

Cool looking kit. Much nicer looking than most of the dial gauge kits out there.
Are you using the auber pyro probe with the exposed thermocouple tip or the sealed tip? I've destroyed many thermocouples in high heat situations at work so I would be somewhat concerned using the exposed tip probes in the exhaust manifold location (depending how beefy the junction wires are)...wouldn't want that tip coming off and getting sucked into the turbo impeller.

Just to clarify: I have a specific problem with the way this site is managed - delica.ca is a self-appointed monarchy - and I'm not going to contribute any further content to it. I'm standing by the principals I stated when Green1 started vandalizing his posts, and I won't delete what is already up here. Likewise, I'm glad to share with you guys and you are welcome to reach out to me or come by one of our mini meets for some help, but its not going to be on this forum. Not until its truly put in the hands of the community or a new forum is started. I realize that this is kind of an awkward thread to say this in because effectively I am advertising for kits in same, which is exactly why I'm doing so. Like I said, I'm not going to vandalize my past posts. If Falco wants to mod me out his website, that's fine. Most people contact me through word of mouth and the Facebook thread anyway.
That said, I'll respond to your specific question while I'm here - the probes are exposed tips, rated to 1800F, well above the operating temperatures. I can also get the 2000F rated probes. I could not find any evidence of tips breaking off, just people proposing the possibility. They are high quality thermocouples. You can also use other K type thermocouples with the Auber gauges.
To all the people who have emailed me about kits, I have been somewhat overwhelmed but I will respond soon when the new batch comes in.
P.S. I heard about your new sig Jesse, and to this I respond with a jovial lol.
