15 years to the day from date of manufacture, so 2012.

Thanks. I just thought that I saw 95's here last year in 2010 so my line of thinking was that 96's would be in 2011.

Close but not quite

15 years to the month of production (not registration)

So a 1996 Model L400 that was manufactured in Decemeber 1995 (but registered in 1996) could have been imported into Canada at/after the month of December 2010.

If the production date/month is earlier than the 15 year period, you would need a letter from Mitsubishi in Japan stated the production month / year otherwise you may get stuck at customs without being able to import the vehicle.

For example, I imported a 1996 L400 which arrived in Canada in January 2011. It was registered (janapense registration) in March of 1996. This is the date customs looks at. I would not be able to import this L400 until March of this year. However, upon referencing the VIN, the production month was November 1995. I obtained the letter from Mitsu stating the vehicle was created in the month of November 1995 and I was able to go through customs with that.

phew.... when I saw the 2012 in this string of posts I nearly had a heart attack as my 96 Spacegear is arriving in March and it has a 96/3 registration. Very excited.

As I am new at this, what are the usual deficiencies found in Delicas.. I understand that headlights, side reflectors are normal ones.

the tires on the vehicle are BF Goodrich AllTerrain T/A and I'm hoping these will be okay as they look like excellent tires.

A simple search will bring up what you are asking for :-)

99.999% chance that you can throw away those tires.

so 99.999% chance of the tires been rejected?

Are you indicating this based on the possibility that they are non-DOT or that the tires will be rated as not acceptable due to the inside being cracked, etc.?

any suggestions for replacement tires...? I'd like to have tires that are similar to those indicated on the photo, that is, big treads, etc.

I live on an island with only gravel roads, no road snow clearing and 4 wheel drive hills to my house.

I get the car in a few weeks or less and I'll keep you posted on what happens....

The tires on your van are legal in canada, i think jfarsang is saying that they will probably be in crappy condition from being old most likely? If you replace the tires i wouldnt buy those ones they're not that great for off-roading, but for pavement they have little road noise.
