I just came from ALAMO INDUSTRIES here in Calgary regarding my oil leak at the turbo (area).

1) Has anyone had dealings with them?

2) How much time do I require to remove the turbo?

3) Can I get all gaskets/new bolts from Rocky Mountain?

They let me know that it may not be the turbo as well. It could be that oil is blowing past into the vent pipe which means a different cause of the leak.

$450-$600 for the rebuilt fits in with what I have read in other posts. (Thanks Jesse)

If you need to order parts from the coast and you also not sure how good Alamo Industries is, you might as well send the turbo to CVI and they do the rebuilt for you.

Wow pulling the drivers seat and lower panel was not fun. I think the gas lever and ebrake have to be disconnected as well??

The arrow points the wet oil spot above the turbo. There is a large black pipe held on with a screw clamp and the two small lines connected to this area were wet as well.

Is there another possible leak location other than the turbo? (just above)

Alamo have re built 2 turbos for my car.... they were pricey but did a good job beacuse there is a lot to do when PROPERLY re building a turbo

Could it be that your valve cover gasket needs replacing? Mine got to the point that my entire undercarriage was coated with oil.

There is not that much oil. About a drop or two makes it to the ground.

I was looking at the 4d56t diagram of the turbo and exhaust manifold and noticed an oil hose pipe and connector.

Mine never actually dripped it just collected on everything. Just something to keep in mind but that doesn't sound like the same problem you're having.

I just recieved the gaskets and the rebuild kit and I am about to get started on the turbo removal.

Anyone have any pointers/advice/words of wisdom before I get started?

Its ambitious considering my hands are still clean.

When I removed my turbo I also removed the intake and exhaust manifold.
Got a good metal gasket for that beforehand.
Then went to it.
There is some good info on the search regarding turbo removal.

That was NOT and easy job! Small hands you say? No kidding.

Got it all put back together minutes before the big snow storm.

Two things: 1) There are two 10mm bolts holding the oil return housing to the turbo and one of them is very difficult to properly tighten. I noticed some leaking there after a test run. I tightened it down a bit more, but would love to get another 1/4 turn. May have to invent a wrench.
2) As I was driving it sounded like the police/ambulance and fire departement were hot in persuit. I did a quick search and found mixed opinion. Pehaps I have an air leak somewhere or a series of other things.

One thing is forsure about this job. Expect nicks all over your hands!

Any part number for this (these ?) metal gasket ? Can they be order as 4D55 Ford Ranger parts ?
