Recently I have noticed that there is water seepage on the driver side floor. Right at the base where the body curves out (below the front of the driver seat).

Has anybody experienced this sort of thing before? (ie:is it something common or just my Deli)

I realize it is a 20 year old vehicle - Could be cracks in chassis, a missing plug, or me tracking it in on wet days. The latter I doubt as it is a significant soaking of the carpet.

I did investigate it yesterday (in the dry) but did not have the time to remove the floor carpet. What I did find - and this is the interesting part - is a 1-Yen coin under the carpet where the wet spot is. I put the coin backing thinking it must have been good luck as there is no way it could have gotten there by accident. The only way it could have got in is the small flap (see pic) - so someone had to put it there.

If you have had a similar situation - fill me in - if not I will have to pull up the carpet and solve it.

Definitely a common problem, especially on the passenger side but I have it a bit on the drivers as well. I've sealed / checked everything that jfarsang has mentioned and more but am still having problems. If they don't solve your problem I'll hopefully have more solutions in the near future.

I did the repairs for wet floors found on this site, and it solved my problem! I did the body seam repair, windshield seal, wiper post seal, windshield washer post seal and the pillar crack seal. All pretty easy repairs with stuff from CDN Tire. The factory sealant at the body seam was completely deteriorated.
i have read that some guys did all the repairs and still have issues, but it solved mine.

Another point I'd like to make is that using a hose and some patience you should be able to determine the origin of the leak, that's my next step when the weather is clear and warmer. I've solved 2 leaks (the body seal and washer fluid bottle) and I still have at least 1 more. The funny thing is that it doesn't leak at all when I'm driving in the rain, only if I'm parked for more than an hour. If you can narrow the search down it could save you some precious time.

5 possible areas unless you have a unique one.

1. Body plugs on the bottom of the footwells get hard and let water in.

2. Passenger side washer bottle leaking at o-ring or tube.

3. Quarter panel vertical seam deterioration letting water in.

4. Tip of rain gutter not closed off letting water down through above quarter panel seam.

5. Door seal leaking via crack or wire or dried up.

I took a longer look at it today - #1, 5 look like the most obvious, #3 a possibility. Thanks for all the thread leads - I will try to be more thorough before I post.

So here is the latest on the leaky thing.
Since it was dry and I had some time I got deeper into the driver side wet carpet.
As you will see in the below pic, the carpet is only wet at the base (away from pedals) which leads me to believe that it is the door seal or drain plug leaking. And not from up behind the quarter panel.

After some inspection / cleaning / drying - I did a quick silicone job on the door seal as I found a few small tears. I also popped and goop'd up the drain plug (since I was there).

After that I placed a sheet of thin (1/8") rubber matting under the carpet - to allow to dry and try to avoid (temporary) future soaking (should the fix not fix). We shall see if this did the job. If not, it is the full-meal deal on a dry day with a few hours to spare.
