Steering wheel grease

Post by nxski »

I'm going to try to put on a new steering wheel on Friday if I get some free time. The adaptor I have is used and has dirty grease in it and I'd like to clean it up and re-grease it. What kind of grease should I be using for this kind of an application?
Thanks

Di-electric Grease its used for low volt contact points, it can be found at parts source for $1.99 in a 20mL tube. ( it lubs and aids with the ground issue for the horn) :M

If you put dielectric grease on your horn contact (where your steering wheel connects with the steering shaft) your horn will cease to operate. Dielectric grease is for insulation purposes, not conductive purposes.

I managed to get everything sorted out by talking to the guys at Lordco. Horn is working although is wired in an odd fashion and the new steering wheel is in place.

The steering wheel was super easy to replace, took me about 10 minutes. The only tricky part was figuring out how to wire the horn. there was one wire coming from the hub adapter and 2 from the steering wheel. I had to ground on of them by taping it to the metal inside of the hub and now all is good.

Thanks for the pics. How did you know which steering wheel would fit?

I bought the adaptor off of a Delica in a scrapyard (Granola, which means this was probably jfarsangs old adaptor) but the steering wheel was in rough shape and I wanted something different anyways. It had 2 - 6 hole configurations, one was wider than the other. I figured that I'd take a gamble and buy a 6 hole steering wheel and because I didn't have the bolts I also took a gamble when it came to the threading. In the end all worked out except they forgot a bolt so I've asked them to send me a new one.
