Hey folks,
In the process of getting Mr. Pistachio ready for roadtrip, I'm stuck with many options for electrical. Thinking and rethinking and re heating and whatever as brought to me to ask for advice.
In an ideal world, I would be able to have electrical power for:
1. Off road lights (250w) (on road)
2. Fridge (on road and camping mode)
3. House lights (camping mode)
4. Inverter (600-1000w) (on road and camping mode)
5. 12 volts (on road and camping mode)
6. Entertainement system (on road and camping mode)
7. Small coffee machine (24/7)
So here's two topics I found quite interesting but didn't quite found an answer.

I'm also looking at putting a new aftermarket 100 alternator that would charge house battery bank and rewire everything that need to be in camping mode to those battery so there's no power shut down when starting and turning off motor. In that case it would be a dual alternator system, and there would be NO contact between camping needed stuff and road stuff.
There's also the option of getting a massive 200 amp alternator and two separate battery bank with the isolator. Obviously, there would be some bracket fabricating but remember, we drive special vehicule and we can built special stuff!
Last option is to hope that stock alternator can handle 100% power increase in charging dual bank and 200+ watts of off ride lights.
Of course my number are a little big higher then reality BUT I don't want to play close to the frying line. If I'm to do a job once I want it to be done well.
It's better to put 700$ in a good system than putting 500$ twice because you fried some systems.
Anyway, I'm doing research on ExPo and people seemed quite ok with aftermarket alternator

Do the 100amp alternator/electronic vacuum and get a Luna sea dual battery management system.

You won't need the electric vacuum pump for the l400, as it is gear driven near the injector pump. I had replaced my stock alternator with a 120amp delco one in early 2010. It was the largest one I could fit under the turbo, between the engine and frame. And there is not alot of room for adjustment of the belts. I had to fabricate new brackets to mount it, and then use an under sized pulley on the alternator to get enough rpm's out of it to produce 120amps at 2000 engine rpm. with the stock pulley, it would only put out 104amps. I used a wilson 90-01-3103A alternator, which is originally listed for a mercruiser inboard. There are other makes that produce higher amps, in a smaller bodied alternator, but this one was under $300, and the budget is always a big factor.

You'll be better off getting a 120A alternator locally and getting a bracket made for less cost and less time.

That's what I thought! Especially that I have every tool I need to do my own custom bracket!
