This sensor? is located near the front of the engine and had a spring on the end of it. Does anyone know what its for, I just noticed the wire is broken inside the spring.

I think this is the coolant temperature sensor for the ECU.

Yup. The on e with the two wires is the coolant sensor for the glow plug controller (ECU), the one with just a single wire is the coolant sensor for the temperature gauge.

By the way ~ your upper rad hose in the picture looks pretty hooped. I suspect your lower rad hose is in much the same condition.

Hi Guys.

I know this is a bit old but worth a shot.

If I install an aftermarket temp gauge and use a sender elsewhere can you unplug the single wire sender pictured? or is it used for something else too.

my single wire is plugged in but the gauge doesn't work anyway so i was going to get an aftermarket gauge and tap a new sender.

cheers

dan

Change the two wire sensor and your gauge will work again. It is for the gauge and the glow plug.
The other with one wire is not a sensor ,it's a temperature switch.

If you replace the two wire sensor, you need the good one.

Many place sell one with a black top.On 4d56,the top of the sensor is brown/red.The two sensor seems identical but resistances
are not the same.I've tried the black top one and my glow plug system was $#&*$ up and the temperature gauge was always too low.

I know that Rising Sun has some in stock.
