Gear selector light toast: any ideas?

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Gear selector light toast: any ideas?

Post by Drumster »

Well the light's not actually toast; a green light comes on behind the "R", "N" or "1" or "2" etc., as it's supposed to, letting you know what gear you're in... except for "Drive". Everything works fine mechanically but the green light behind the "D" fails to come on as it should when you select "drive". It used to be fine but one morning it just woke up with this particular green light kaput.

It looks like a HUGE job to take the entire dash apart just to replace some tiny little bulb. But maybe it's not so bad as it looks. Has anyone here tried this or had to replace the bulb?? (I'm assuming it's a bulb.)
Cheers!

I have the same problem. I find that as long as all the other lights are working I know I'm in drive. If more than one goes out, especially 'N' then I will worry about replacing them.

I know what you mean; it's not the end of the world... or if it is, at least the light has nothing to do with it  I know I'm in drive because none of them are lit up; it just doesn't look right. I'm pretty picky about having everything in good working order etc. and it just kinda' bugs me to have this bit not working properly. If I happen to find out any more about it or come across an easy fix or even an explanation, I'll let you know.

I'd be picky too if I wasn't doing so many other thongs to the van. :-D Thanks, if you figure it out I'll be back to this post in the future.

You have to replace the bulb and it's a little exercise to get the console out. :-D
