2 1/2" side exhaust muffler

I'm planning on getting this mod done to my L400. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Maybe they could point out some mufflers/installers to use. I'm on a budget and kinda want the best bang for my buck. I'm doing this for performance not sound.

Magnaflow are good
You'll want the least restrictive muffler possible for performance

It has changed the way the Deli idles; more noise in the cabin. Outside it sounds normal.

This will be your best one for low and horsepower increase. It's what I have on Turtle and the turbo spoolup is quicker and all in all breathes very well.

The offroad one is not a performance muffler. It's selling point is thicker gauge body and coating which in the L400's case doesn't matter because the muffler is tucked up above the lower body line.

The offroad (black) one you posted is based on flowmaster's 40 series which are quite LOUD. It will be more noticeable in the cab and definitely outside.

What is the difference between a 40 series and a 50 series muffler?
The 50 series (moderate to mild) incorporates an internal tuning chamber that helps reduce interior sound level in the cab area of your vehicle, and provides a slightly milder exterior tone than the 40 series. The 40 series (aggressive) will generally resonate or “drone” inside the vehicle, around 1800-2000 rpm and again, around 2400-2600 rpm. The performance characteristics of the 40 and 50 series are the same, so it’s simply “a sound decision”.
Flowmaster is the parent company of Hushpower. These mufflers use a completely different technology than Flowmaster and we have had some very cool success with diesel engines. In testing with Kenny Duttweiler (Duttweiler Performance in Saticoy, CA) on his dyno conducted with no outside influence, he found no loss of power comparing both with or without muffler.
Most recently - and appropriate for diesel - Drake Swett began running a Hushpower muffler on his drag racing Cummins (I know it's not a Duramax) and is now the fastest common rail Dodge in the country. If he didn't think it worked, he would obviously not run it.
This is the one I've been using on all my diesel's 50 Super series. It's larger but quieter and has the best 'flow' to let the diesel engine breath.

Sergiy, I recently changed the same exhaust hangers you have to some not so solid and more free hanging versions and made a difference in terms of interior noise. Now it's quite again while idling.

Cool. Thanks Jesse. I just realized I posted the same muffler again. Duh! I edited my post above with a new link. I'll look into that one for sure.
On a side note. Do you have any lift kits for L400 available? Non-ECS btw. I wanna get one from you in the next week or two.

x2 on the soft hangers
two points as well
extend the heatshield to cover the rear heater rubber hoses !
&
extend the pipe so that it blows out sideways past the tire and not directly at the mid section of the tire
hot exhaust is not good for the rubber
otherwise looks clean and tidy underneath the whole L400 !

Felix: good point; that was my guess since I got this mod.
Jesse: the exhaust does not blow at the mid section but it might be a good idea to extend it a bit.

are there significant gains if the pipe was out the side vs a couple more feet out the back (2.5 mandrel bent with high flow mufler/resonator)? i thought of this too when i go ahead with my SS 2.5" exhaust, only concern is blowing it in someones face with their window open at the lights, lol.

Trucks use side exhausts all the time and I've never seen them blow in anyone's face (noticeably more than a rear exhaust, it's all dependant on wind). The one thing I've noticed with mine is that if I'm starting up the vehicle with the window open and the wind is blowing in the right direction I will get a big blast of exhaust coming inside the van.
