Auto Free Hub

Righto, as the resident newbie I have a conundrum. I have hubs marked "Auto Free Hub". I was attempting to put Boba into 4x4, and it felt like there was increased power to the front end, but the 4x4 light on the dash panel didn't go on.

As far as I can tell, all the lights in the pod are working. So I took him over to a bit of a muddy hill (I live on a farm) and drove till I slipped. Engaged the 4x4, and cruised up the hill no problem.

Just to be safe, when I got back to solid ground I disengaged 4x4 and reversed for about 20 ft.

Anyone have any experience with these "Auto Free Hubs", or have an idea as to where I can get a translated Owner's Manual?

trust the clicking sound and the feel of the ride, not the lights on the dash. usually 2 or 3 feet is enough to reverse. its very common for the 4x4 and wheel lock lights to not work

Thanks for that! My old Nissan (1988 4x4) was a marvel of engineering. I kept her in top shape, and everything still works on her. Makes me nervous when they don't.

Sadly, ol' Cricket leaves the farm today.

If I read the first post correctly the author mentioned the 4x4 light, not the 'wheel lock' light. This problem has been discussed and fixed many many times on all Delica forums. For example: http://www.delica.ca/forum/is-this-the- ... -6706.html
'Wheel lock' light is a different story; the source of the signal is the pulse generator on the end of the front drive shaft but nobody can answer the question so far where it is being sent and what keeps the light lit.
