Pajero Info please

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get myself into a pajero and have been reading up on them here and other message boards, reviews etc. I have a couple of questions:

1) reading all your posts of what has gone wrong. I'm wondering what kind of mileage you guys are seeing before any issues arise?

2) I"m looking at a few pajero's this being one of the ones I like the most: http://www.tyeeimports.com/jdm-cars-for ... ro/Montero

any feed back as to whether this vehicle is any cleaner or if its typical to see them in this condition, mileage etc when looking at one form a dealership? and if any one has dealt with this dealer before?

I"m in Victoria and the dealership is in Campbell River, BC

Thanks,

Jason

Personally I would not buy any 3,5C grade. My minimum to consider is 4B grade with less than 40.000km on the clock...
Keep in mind, you'll need to put new tires (I'll be very surprised if she comes with DOT tires), headlights, DRL etc...could cost you about $1500 or even more plus taxes on the top of all. I think that brakes will be due for such mileage...

Good luck,

Since you mentioned living in Victoria, if you wanted to take a look at a SWB Pajero (mine) before making the trek up to Tyee, come join us atop Mt. Tolmie this Sunday: http://www.delica.ca/forum/victoria-mee ... 10644.html

Hey,
Tyee imports don't do much to their vehicles when
they bring them in. They are actually quite forthcoming
about this fact. This is reflected in their lower prices.
If you are a mechanically inclined person you can save a bundle
on maintenance. Alternately you could drop another 2-4k on it
at a Place like Coombs Country Auto in Parksville and they
will give you back a kick-ass Pajero to cruise the island and beyond with.

To answer your questions directly,
1)Problem free mileage is in my opinion directly proportional to
the maintenance that has been done, sometimes the vehicle
will have had good maintenance before coming to you, sometimes not.
By getting a Pajero for less like at tyee you can invest in a maintenance package,
and be more sure of hassle free driving.

2)I have not seen this one in person but 128k is not bad,

Right On~! 8-)

I would echo Luna Sea's comments re: Tyee. We bought our Pajero for about the same price and it ran. In fact, it ran quite well, but we still had Coombs Country Auto give it the once-over. At the end, we poured 4000$ into the engine bay and the suspension, but we got (in my estimation) a practically-new 15-year-old vehicle.

By comparison, I just bought a 1995 VW, took it to Volkswagen and they told me it could do with about 5000$ worth of repairs. Nothing fails safety-wise, but again, it would require quite a bit of work before it would be back at a fully-functional state.

Got my 89 pj at 175000ks. Done the timing, glow plugs, block heater, heater fan, belts ,brakes,ac dryer, recharge ac,trans filter and diff/transfer case oil changed $2500 in all so far. Why for such a old suv because this diesel motor will run for a long time. And is still in my mind one hell of a wicked ride. All in all this will come back to me as the 89 will run for another 10 years with regular maintenance, You cant get that in today's cars or trucks,at least with the gas mileage that you get with all the trimmings in this suv class.I bought this ride on a whim and i have not looked back Had this 89 for one year now. Total for one slightly used suv 5500.

Just did this on the weekend

I would not worry too much about the KM's as I think that its better if the suv has been driven on a semi regular basis than parked for a long period of time. Worry more about what it looks like and how it looks to be taken care of.

Love my Pajero :M bought it with 117000kms now 134000 with only a few things needed to be repaired.

That is exactly my point. You got low mileage for more $$ or high mileage for less $$ with necessity to invest more $$ and time.
By the end you spend more $$ and have high mileage rig.

Pajero is a great truck, here you can see a sample Pajero with 537.459 km!

I will not live so long life to be able to get such mileage :-D

Good luck!

Ya unfortunately I had to work. I own a cleaning company and it can be very on call...

Hopefully I can meet up sooner than later. I would like to see one of these up close, so far I've just seen pics. I'm definately looking for a LWB turbo diesel. I have a baby on the way in October so I'd like to pick one up this summer and learn as much about them as I can before then since I really dont know that much. lol

with 4b, it will be almost flawless. 3.5c minor scratch, dents and inside not mint. grading has nothing to do with mechanical condition.
