I am in Penticton for the week, and the bolt holding the the altenator at the top has sheared, therefore no belt tension. Does anybody know a mechanic that can handle this in penticton. I am afraid the little bit that the tension screw goes through, is lost. the location of this problem really pisses me off, how the hell are you supposed to work onit? If i can't get the bolt out how can i get tension on the belts ? any ideas?
Cheers
Val

It's an akward place to work on.
Without knowing where it sheared, its hard to give advice.
May have to drill it out or use a reverse thread bit to remove the sheared section. Most mechanics should have these tools.

Thanks
It's the bolt that holds the tensioning screw. It goes from that little piece on the tensioning screw to the alternator. The piece of bolt is still in the alternator.

You can pull out the alternator...see if there is enough to get vise grips on it. IF NO then,
next drill out for an EZ-OUT. IF NO then,
Next drill out and thread the alternator up a bolt size (or use a bolt on the back)
much better then breaking the bolt in the block.
Good luck

Agreed.
Or if you can, use a heli-coil insert.

visotzky, give me a call on my cell, I have access to tools and a shop if needed and I have dealt with alternator problems before.

Good call on the heli-coil.

The odds are the remaining bolt is pretty loose, it's just not somewhere it's easy to get to.
