I came across this kit @ Princess Auto the other day and wondered if anyone has used it. It looks pretty simple and Permatex usually makes pretty good stuff. For $15 I thought I might try it.

Looks like an interesting find for fifteen bucks. How much does Speedy Auto Glass charge to do a job like that? Strikes me as being a good kit to have with you on trips into the toolies.

I have this kit always with me on longer road trips. Works great for smaller chips and prevents the crack to spread out, but is not as invisible and strong as the professional glass shop can make it.

I have used a similar product from CT for $10 once and had to replace the windshield after; a small chip has turned into a big crack. Did the the same job on another car at Speedy for $45 and it was perfect. Everything is more expensive now of course but I would not gamble.

I have used these type of kits twice on the usual snowflake/bullethole type chips. First repair was great...you could still tell where the repair was but it was almost invisible. Second repair I pushed to hard mouning the suction cup and turned my little chip into a foot long crack <facepalm>. So just be careful but they do work quite well.

The biggest difference is that the guys at the windshield repair places will drill and or vacuum to remove all the air in and around the chip. Little air bubbles in the winter expand and contract a lot and can spread even though a crack is filled.
Deco windshield repair is by far the best. We've had them fix a 6 - 8" crack, and dozens of chips.
$25 for a regular chip repair, never any waits, and they are everywhere.
It would be worth finding out if they could do a fix after the diy kit has been done if there is still air in the chip
