I hate that! I feel like such a tool bag when I am sitting at a stop with someone waiting for me and I start wiping my window instead of signaling. I am finding it even harder because I drive my Delica all day long and then get into the wifes SUV and turn the wipers on all the time in it too.

I guess its best to start when your young, only been a driver for 10 years so no habits. I am ambidextrous in my driving, drive a LHD work Van all day and switch back to my Pajero frequently, the Only thing I mix up is turn signal on my LHD once in a while. Other than that I adapt back and fourth without thought.

Yes, unfortunately my neighbor has caught me twice on different occasions ( I actually got into the passenger seat both times)...arrggh

Driving a RHD gets me lots of smiles and is a great ice breaker for conversations...if I knew this back in my 'Single' days....I wouldn't have had to drop so much $$ at clubs

Funny enough was touring, in Laos last month, with a Brit that had never driven on the left; he went home after two days, after two close calls as driving on the other side was too freaky for him.

Oh yeah and it always happens at gas stations or other public places. I usually try to act casual by pretending to look at something in the passenger side.

I was so proud of myself...it had been about 2 weeks since I last tried to be a passenger in my own van, or wiped the windshield making a turn...

Parked outside my folks place (who are always saying "how do you drive on the wrong side?" to which I always reply "I don't...I drive on the right!") and while saying my goodbyes and walking to the van, I wandered to the passenger side. Looked into the van, no steering wheel...

I felt a little sheepish...

The most common question I get is "Isn't it hard driving on the other side?" No Darth! and you are not my father!!!

It never bothered me, as a motorcyclist I am used to being on either side of the lane. As for the turn-sig / wiper issue - well it happens occasionally.

The funniest thing, for me, with RHD is when I first drove in Japan several years ago. Deep down inside I was concerned that I might screw up while driving so I mentally flipped everything to the other side. The problem with this was...
When my Hunny told me to make a left at a particular street - I immediately hooked a right. My brain actually flipped right/left as well. So when in Japan direction are always given in Japanese so it won't happen again.

I still get in the wrong side now and then and still do the wiper thing too, though after over 3 years less and less. Hitch hikers are funny running up looking for a door "huh?" - Mdy girlfriend gets lots of looks and laughs playing her ukulele -
"OMG that driver is playing a ukulele!!"

I think I have gone up to the passenger door a couple times since owning my van.

My girlfriend, on the other hand, frequently shows up at the driver's door when we return to the vehicle from dinner or the grocery store, etc... I stop, look at her, she looks at me like 'what, open the door, what are you doing on this side' and I just smile.... wait... and then it dawns on her then we giggle and speed off into the sunset

Hmmm, similar here, but as she approaches the Right door I say "it's OK dear, I'll drive" (just in case someone is watching)

I try to show some sensitivity in my old age...
