chugging noise resonating through my air filter

My L300 is making a chugging noise. I thought it was the air filter as the noise seemed to be coming from that area. Then I pulled the air intake hose off the air cleaner assembly and could hear the chugging coming through the air intake hose- sounds like the engine firing and it seems to be resonating through the intake hoses and through the air filter. Anyone have any thoughts or similar exprienes?

have a look on the bottom of the air filter housing - there is a small rubber flapper valve ( I suppose to let water drain). If it is damaged and doesn't seal it will make a noise that could be what you are hearing. Try pushing on it with your finger to see if that's the problem.

Spoke with Glenn from Coombs country who thought it was one of the rocker arms- opened it up and sure enough a busted rocker arm. Not actually as difficult a job as I thought it would be. The hardest part was trying to fish out all the bearing and shards of aluminum.

Thanks for your concern!

By the way is that you "Nihm's neighbour"?
