Hi all,

i'm still just a wanabe delica owner but have loads of questions...

so i know from TD VW's that significant hp gains can be had with some tweaking of the turbo and pump, bigger exhaust/intake, intercooler etc.

i know a few of you have turned up the boost a bit and added a bigger exhaust. how's that working out? anyone put on an intercooler? is the waste gate on the delica an external type that can be easily adjusted or does it require boost bleeder valves and such? what kind of pressures can one safely run and keep the head from popping off? and what is stock?

i don't expect a racing van but do like to hold speed and maybe even pull a pass or two.

thanks

Hi, I can say that I have added some nice power mods to a few Delica's now, but the van I am waiting for is not ariving until the first week in OCT, so its tough to keep boosting power to everyone elses vans lol, and then get back into my exploder But my Christmas is just over a month away.
the exhaust is the easiest mod, but not cheap. Im going to be selling larger exhaust that is bolt on in the next 2 months, SOOOO many ways to use a TIG!!!

Also a larger intercooler is good or just put a scrap yard electric fan from say a geo or something tiny to help pull air throught the loovers of the itty bitty cooler we have now, Personally im putting in an intercooler froma turbo volvo, damn things are HUGE and I have one parked allready lol... Ya upgrade our turbo, not looking for fast and the furious, but a better set of blades will push more air , also if your mechanical (a bit) Take off your exhaust manifold and Dremmel the ports larger, dont go crazy but you will see how much you can safely make them larger to allow for more exhaust flow and the more exhaust flow the faster your turbo can spool. one feeds the other...

Im a bit more adventurous and am going a step further, In the back of the van where the spare tire cage is , Take out the tire and cage, put the tire on the roof, Oh ya, buy a safari rack off me (shameless plug :-D ) and the area is actually very large if you go just shy of the rear diff, Half is going to be a Large capacity Aluminum WVO tank with angle going up to the rear bumper for Departure angle, and the other side is going to be for my PROPANE INJECTION . yes I said it out loud, Its diesel friendly ads lots of power and is nice and cool.
you dont run it all the time, my favorite method is a presure activated button on the floor under the Throttle pedal. so it only comes on when your foot is to the floor and you looking for that extra power to pass on the hwy, go up the coq or Hat, or for what ever your need is, but you get the idea.
Oh I am also planing to add to the weight of my van with roled Steel bumpers, winch for the front and trailering/tire rack in the back with swing out tire carrier. Ya, with that tig all sorts of things are in the works now .

Hope that helps with some ideas to make some more power with our little vans that seem to have a cult like following lol. How many of you have come out of a buisness and had a small crowd around your van,
Try parking infront of MEC with a delica and a for sale sign, you wont be able to drive away until you answer ALOT of questions and then you have to clean all the windows from the forheads and hand marks on the glass lol

The first post is about the L400, go down a bit, you will find most of your answers.
As for putting on an intercooler, there is a nice spot to put it out front, but since it never came with one, plumbing is going to be a nightmare. The turbo is tight up against the manifold and will need to move down probably a good 12" to make room for the piping. If I had the motor out I would do it, but trying to do it with the motor in place, is going to take alot of work.
