Looking for a Delica...

Hi Everyone,

Sorry about posting here... I'm still relatively new to this forum and I don't know all the headings off by heart.

So I live in Victoria BC and I'm looking for a good Delica... ideally an L300 with about 100,000 kms or so, Crystal Lite is ideal but not a must. I've had some feedback from several people and I appreciate the help.

Has anyone dealth with these people?:

And does this seem like a great deal, or a potential nightmare?

I'm trying to temper my itch to get on the road with this, with being cautious!

Thanks! You guys have been great!

Luis

Looks like an odd Delica, I'd definitely have it inspected. Also, have you test driven a few? That's a great way of learning how the should sound and feel...

The main concern with that Delica is that the engine was replaced when it had very low km's. It must have been really misstreated at the beginning of it's life to warrant that.

Yeah, I spoke to Benn last night about it. Nice guy. He'd mentioned that the previous owner had... aw man, I can't remember now! Something about a timing belt perhaps. Anyway, the engine was replaced and then there are some issues with the roof... rust and leaks I think. There's a shop across the street that would repair it for $2,000. So it would cost $7,000 in the end. What do you think? I'm torn between the possibility of a good deal and the possibility of this thing being too inexpensive to be good...

The white one he is selling looks pretty cool and sounds like it is in good shape. Benn seems to know what he's talking about, but of course I don't know the guy. He was pretty quick to send me some more pics, which I appreciated.

I've taken 3 Delicas out for test drives... they all felt pretty different, actually! One felt really solid and powerful, the other felt fast but loose and wobbly, and the other was just kind of slowish... Not sure what they're supposed to feel like.

If you feel confident that it's good mechanically then I'd say it's a good deal. If you're a do-it-yourself person you can repair the roof for $100 and a full weekend of your time.
