Gonna go drive around that area tomorrow for a little outing, picnik, hike etc. I have my backroads book, but I don't the area very well. Any recommendations as to where to stop and walk around? Maybe go for a swim?

I was there last weekend and it was a gong show. I would keep away from the lake side as there are a lot of redneck's on atv's/bikes/lifted buggies throwing rocks in every direction.

What did the redneck say before he died? "hey, watch this"!

It looks as though there are some roads that head out into the hills. Maybe we'll take one of those roads. I just want to get out into the woods with the wife for a while. Why does it have to be so hard?

There are many roads and places in the woods to go off to. Stave lake is the redneck magnet of the Fraser valley area.

Backroads map and a good day will get you near lost and in happy-no-people-around land within an hour. :-D

Thanks for your help guys. Got up late Saturday morning, Friday night was a little bit too much fun (daughter with the grandparents), so we got a late start. We avoided Stave. I was surprised by the amount of locked gates we encountered through the day. But we had a fun day anyway.
Have you guys been to Davis lake? The road in sounded pretty bad from what I read, so we avoided it. I'd rather try a road like that with with more than one vehicle.

Yes, the locked gates are thanks to the red necks who destroyed the roads.

The road down to Davis was pretty garley last time I was down it (in my old tank Ford F-250) Why not travel further up the road to Salsbury Lake. Road has always been tame

I know it's a little late but I concur, stay away from Stave Lake.
I learned this the hard way a few years back.

I went to the lake with my two dogs and a buddy, we headed off on my boat to camp on one of the beaches overnight.
Found a nice sandy beach with no one around on the opposite side from the road access shore.
"This is perfect" I thought to myself, water was warm, no one around, dogs were having a blast swimming.

After an hour the noise of the ATVs and dirt bikes started to get to me.
After six hours it really got annoying. Then it started to get dark and the noise stopped. Ah, how nice.
Then the chainsaws started up. Ack.
Then the shot guns.
This then dies down to just whooping and hollering.
Then the ATVs and dirt bikes started up again and went all night.

Packed up in the morning and boated back to the boat launch, went up to get the truck and back up the boat trailer. Truck was gone. Someone stole it. Trailer was still there though.
There I was stuck with two dogs, no cell phone reception.

Luckily when I walked up the road a ways I got reception. Got a friend to come get me.

My truck was found the next day in a pub parking lot in Mission, no damage.

Stave lake is a beautiful lake, but it is ruined by the rednecks.
