My husband has removed the rear diff in my L300 and is now trying to source out the pinion seal (or oil seal lip?). Is there a parts number out there for this? i found this Lordco parts list http://www.delica.ca/forum/lordco-cross ... -9714.html but not sure what I'd be looking for. I have scoured this site for any info on where to pick one up and can't seem to find anything. Any help would be great. Thanks! *dalyn
we have downloaded the drive shaft pdf on the site and also read the extensive instructions on how to remove and put it back together.

is this what we need? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MITSUBISHI-DE ... 0731653978
preferably available in the lower mainland...

Not sure of the number if you get the old seal out it might have the part number on it......Same rear end as in the Montaro so those seals should fit. You could also drop by a rear end shop and they will match it up.

If you're looking just for the rear diff pinion seal, you can buy it at Lordco, NAPA, etc.. or bearing shops.

They all come from the same place (make sure you get the SKF brand and not a Korean/Chinese/India one)

Part number # SKF17667

$13 (cash sale price for everyone + taxes)

Whew! that's great info Jesse.

By the way this was looking above I had started to think that even the simple parts on our vans, like pinion seals, had to be special ordered by our trusted importers.

I will be filing this part number away for future use.

That SKF part number is for the L300 rear diff which is smaller than the L400's. L400's have different rear diff's (larger - 2 versions)

We tried to get it locally for customer repair service , but it seems nothing or hard to source.
It would be great if you can get from local part shops and show us pics.

As far as I know it has the same part number MB160949.
Check this out.

My understanding is the L400 has a bigger pinion gear then the L300. So I would expect the pinion seal to be different.

Jesse would most likely know.

Cheers

Regardless, the SKF seal part number is SKF17667

There are shops that stock them.

You can also buy it under the National or Timken brand.

You can try National Wide in Port Kells.

Also you can find the seal kit online in the US. It would come out to just under $30 shipped to your door.

Dug up from an older post
jfarsang wrote: There are two size diffs in the L400, an 8"diff (smaller) and a 9"diff (larger).

Series 1
All V6's have 9"diff
Most LWB's turbo diesels have 9" diff
All SWB's turbo diesels have 8"diff.

Series 2
All V6's have 9"diff
All LWB's turbo diesels have 9" diff
Some SWB's turbo diesels have 9"diff but others may have the 8" diff

There are two guaranteed ways of correctly identifying which diff you have.

First method is to measure the physical diameter of the circle drawn on the diagram, the smaller diff is 240mm and the larger is 280mm.
Smaller diff on a S1 SWB T/D is approx 240mm (Bear's diff)
Image
Larger diff on a S1 LWB T/D is approx 280mm (Bubble's diff)
Image

Second and perhaps the easiest method is to physically observe the termination point of the ribing on the axle assembly.
Smaller diff on a S1 SWB T/D the ribing terminates before the outer edge (Bear's diff)
Image
Larger diff on a S1 LWB T/D the ribing terminates at the outer edge (Bubble's diff)

I don't understand what you mean.
We are talking about 1st generation L400, no need to mention 2nd generation. :-)

I saw part number for LWB, it is MB160949 as well. :o
