Safely use jumper cables / test / remove batteries

The area between the top of the battery at the positive posts and the engine bay firewall is very tight, especially with all of those connections and wires.
It is very easy to short the system, cause a spark or do some serious electrical damage.
One way to prevent this is to shield the underside of the metal firewall (under the passenger seat) above the battery(ies).
You can do it permanently or temporarily while you use jumper cables or are servicing that area.
Some materials to use :
Neoprene
Rubber
Thick plastic
Anything to keep the positive terminal and connections from touching the body and any metal.
I'm sure others have some ingenious suggestions as well.
Post them !
