i noticed that there is two fuel tanks under the van, are they 25 liters each? i never take chances of running the van fully out of gas on a diesel, i heard its bad and a real pain in the arse if you do, i figured that the tanks capacity from when i fuel the van up from when the gauge shows almost empty is 50 liters, but maybe its 60.. can someone confirm this for sure please.. cheers.

My tank is a 65L tank... I am not sure if that is standard though.

The Delica has a manual transmission and an automatic transmission type. If your Delica is Manual Transmission, you don't have the extra tank. That means that your Delica's fuel capacity is only 60 liters. But if your Delica is fitted with an automatic transmission, your Delica has an extra fuel tank installed beside the sliding door stepbar. This is an additional 15 liters making it a total of 75 liters for Delicas with auto transmission.

well now, i'm confused! some of you guys have a 65L tank, and butz tells us that they can only be ether 60L if stick shift model, or 75L if auto tranny..! and besides, if mine being an automatic has 75L between the two tanks, well that makes it real poor gas/mileage ratio!! i mean i'm getting on average 460 k's per tank and that's mainly highway! so if i got 75L capacity, what the heck! HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!

My '90 Exceed has an automatic transmission and 75L capacity, and if I fill right when my fuel light goes on, it takes 60L, but I've run it down as low as 69L before filling up without a problem. That means I'd have a healthy 15L reserve after the fuel light comes on.
Assuming your van is the same, 460km on a 60L fill isn't great, but sounds pretty close to what myself and others have been getting for mileage.

Dieselconsumption could be anywhere between 10 and 20 liters/100 km.
Driving >100-110 km/h with a strong headwind could mean a dieselconsumption of 18-20 liters/100 km ( due to the not to good aerodynamics of the L300)

We got 22 MPG on our first tank, in town and on highway. I'll tell ya what we get on our second if ya wait a bit!

hey guys, i had it all wrong, i never bothered to notice the fact that there is a low fuel light that comes on, thanks to you guys for pointing it out! so what i was doing before, being scared of running the van dry, i would re-fuel once the needle on the fuel gauge would start touching the red... so i would only be able to put on average 45-49 liters of fuel and i'd be maxed out...hence me, the dum-ass, thinking that the capacity of the tank was 50L!
well i was getting on average 460 k's on that, but i have decided to test it now that i know there is a low fuel warning light that tells you that you have about 15 L of fuel left! (that would be the second tank) so anyways, blah blah... i am now at 525 km's since i filled the van right up, and still no light yet! so i would assume that i probably could pull off near 600 K's on 75L not that bad after all! learning everyday, the beast can't stop amazing me!

525km so far? not bad... is that mainly highway driving? or a mix of highway/city? (I am a bit worried about the range on these vehicles as I have gotten used to a 700km+ range on my current car... and there are events I do where I do count on it being awful close to that!)

its a bit of a mix between highway driving and city driving, my low fuel indicator light just came on this morning as i was warming the van up, so i'm not sure how many more k's i could go on before i run dry but i'm not gonna take a chance, i'll drive for awhile more in town then fuel right up and see how much she takes.. i'll keep you guys posted!

O.K, there it is, i had about 530 k's on the meter when my low fuel light was on constantly, so i went and fueled right up and she took 60L ! so i would assume that i would still have 15L reserve which would be comming from the second tank... i guess i could probably go 600K's before completely running out.. so lets see here, first tank @ 60L X 100=6000
6000/ 530=11.320754 so roughly 11.3L per 100KM
235.215/11.3=20.77871 or 20.7 miles per US gallons or:282.481/11.3=24.95 or 25 miles per imperial gallons...
i guess if i can go 100 km on 11 liters of fuel, then i could get close to 700k's between the two tanks before i'm completely emptied..
still though, where do they (the "dealers") get those "30 to 35 milles per gallon"?? or maybe its just my van thats got a fuel consumption problem?

30mpg is commonly quoted on the UK site too... the difference is they use different gallons than north america does...
