l400 car alarm/remote start install

Well it looks like it is time to put in some security. I'm looking at the Viper 5901. My question is, has anyone done any of this kind of wiring yet on the L400's? I started to wade through the electrical schematics and thought perhaps someone has already gone through this already. I've done one install before of an alarm some 20 years ago and see that they have added a few more wires to cars since I did my '86 Jetta. haha
Any pointers (ie. color of wires and where best to break into it, no pun intended) would be gratefully appreciated.
Rudy

I thought about doing it myself but ended up getting it done at a car audio place for $200 all in.
I sure would like to find out how to disable the auto lock feature tho , it's driving me nuts.

That is interesting. The auto lock feature is one of the primary reasons why I want this unit. We just had someone the other night visit the van and take the electric brake only to throw it on the ground to houses down and then have another vehicle drive over it

I read on another forum that the auto lock issue was frustrating as well. The has got to be a way to over ride this. If nothering else, a manual switch to interupt the circuit would take care of this. The unit I want is going for $200 and I want to save the $200 install and know what wires are cut and why so that if I have issues in the future I know where to start looking.
Anybody out there do it on their own?
Rudy.

Did it myself? yes....... document colours and such, sorry
recommend
http://www.sonicelectronix.com for unit and any other electronics for auto......
wiring schematics were straight forward and I installed the computer unit center below the dash, lots of room in there.
The basic install should be very simple, constant power, ac power, run some wires good to go!
Each other accessory that you hook up will require you to find the correct wires... ie, door locks (relay just left under steering column, colouring was easy), dome lights, headlights/markers lights........ etc.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS FIRST, some of these features may or may not require additional relays and or diodes or you will fry the channels circuit.
The auto locks should be easy to disable, need your book..... usually ignition on (or on-off-on several times) then there is usually a valet switch that you will scroll through........ blah blah, all different, look at the manual!
probably more blah blah then help..............
