I dont know the cost of any (new, used, or rebuilt) but if it were my money i would go rebuilt
A: you can have it spun up somehow for a higher amp rating I myself have had a good run on a rebuilt alternator in my truck (spun to 120 amp from 95)
b: you most likley will get more life than if you go with a 2nd hand one
c: you would have a better chance at getting a deal on a starter rebuild later at the same shop
just my 2 cents

FWIW, i found one on eBay.uk for $150 plus $40 shipping a couple weeks ago. I can have stuff shipped to New Brunswick from England way cheaper than the west coast...i guess it is a little closer....
From what i have read, our alternators have the same guts as most, and are easily rebuilt (windings, diodes etc.) at most local shops.
