I wrench for BC Transit and we have also have had alot of problems with ULSD, premature injector failures, vp44 injection pumps also with shortened lives. This is one reason why I dope my diesel every tank to prolong injection pump life.

There are alot of guys driving diesel truck of all ages unless its brand new and built for ULSD almost all of them dope (diesel additive) and the most knowledgeable said this is the best for price and availability
http://www.powerservice.com/dfs/

I buy it in one gallon and portion it out in one litre oil jugs for easier handling

To each there own

I've used some of this before, but never stuck to a regimented dose. I have some now, I'll stick with it to see if anything changes.

you can buy it at canadian tire
there are many lubricant additives for diesels
it really doesn't matter which brand X you use, so long as you add some type of lubricant

We got to talking and a buddy mentioned hearing about using 2 stroke oil at a 200:1 mix. Looked it up and it sounds like alot of people are are starting to do this, alot cheaper and gaurantied lubrication. I am going to do more research and chime back in.

I bought Power Service from Canadian Tire and tried it out one time. My engine started blowing lots of grey smoke and my mileage went from 8.5 KPL to 7 (city). I haven't used it since. Currently I use Diesel Treat (Howes) which I find consistent. Would be interested to hear more about two stroke oil.

This should be a separate topic.

I use dexron automatic transaxle fluid. One liter with a full tank of fuel.
Sometime i mix it with PowerService additive.

Automatic fluid was perfect with the old volkswagen diesel of my father(Rabbit and two Jetta) and with the old 6.2 chevy van of my uncle.

How often do you put it in? With every tank after fuelling? Once a month? Falco, where do you get your stuff - for some reason I'm thinking Lordco?

Yeah I also read a very large article on adding 1:200 2 stroke oil to your fuel. Sounds the business, im going out and buying some at my earliest convenience. It reduces soot by 50%, and increases fuel economy by 3-5%.. Apparently there is some doubt about alot of the fuel additives doing anything. Ultra low sulfur diesel will be the death of us all..
cheers,
steve

every tank

you do not need to spend $$$ on diesel additive. it is simple lubcricant.

2-stroke oil does your engine wonders, same with a bit of clean svo among all the 100 choices of diesel additives in canadian tire, lordco, etc...

there's a few threads already floating around over the past few years on this exact topic as well.

mcbeaven wrote:It reduces soot by 50%, and increases fuel economy by 3-5%..
not quite. that would be at the high end of the extreme savings. on the average you won't see any better fuel economy but you 'may' see a slight reduction in soot level.

It's not as bad or evil as you can 'read on the internet'.

I use Petrolabs since I own my van on every fill up. Don't know there is any difference but learn its good for diesel fuel. I will switch to stanadyne after using up Petrolabs diesel power plus. I have a l400 though.

Cheers,
