Anybody know if there are speaker wires already in place in the rear of a short wheelbase Pajero?
I know I've no speakers, but before I drop it off at the stereo shop I want to know if there are some wires back there or if I'm going get charged another hour's worth of time for running new wire.

I don't know if there is, but that shouldn't take an hour for a shop to do, 15 minutes max?

It's quite simple to do if you wanted to yourself, if not then it's a good thing you have a SWB, less wire and less time!

The speakers are a bit of a pain to get to. You have to remove the upper and lower door trim, then gently pry the rubber edge off with some wide flat pry tools to be sure not to damage it. Then you have to pry the door panel off popping a couple clips if I recall correctly. Once in there it is best to use stubby screwdrivers as they fit much better. You'll see. And putting it back together was the hardest since the rubber edge/seal was quite stiff.
You can also remove the stock adapter plate for 5" speakers so you can install 6x9's. Get some decent 3 way speakers and you'll enjoy a huge improvement.
You should measure the distance from the mount to the body panel so you don't buy speakers that are too deep. Also if the steel is too close it will probably wear your magnet or restrict your cone at the least.
I regret not lining or insulating the door panels while I was in there as its a bit boomy as it acts like a cabinet. I even had some very light spray foam that probably would have worked well. Ohh well.

I got some FatMat that I've got on standby for when I do this improvement. I was just wondering if the wire was in there in the first place or if I'd have to run some.

Mine was a original Mitsu with a cable 2 prong connector for their speakers. I would assume yours has the same ready to go, no?

There is a guy that owns a SWB that did an excellent write up of the speaker installation in his blog. It is located at
