Power Window is Kaput (sp?) - Wiring or Motor?

My driver's side window has officially stopped working, and I am trying to determine whether it is likely the motor or a wiring issue in the controls. Over the past few weeks the window has been slow in raising, almost as if it's straining. At the same time, I have occasionally needed to press the control a few times before it would work, sometimes needing to hold it for a couple of seconds before the window would start to move.
Thoughts?
If it is the motor, where is the best (cheapest) place to get a replacement?
Thanks.

Could be motor or could be couple of problems
first I would test the switch with a 12v light plug it inline and cycle the switch if light works every time with out delay then I would eleminate the switch.
Next I would lube and check movement of the window regulator
Next check to make sure the motor has a good ground again with the 12v light hook it to the battery pos post and then connect it to the ground for the motor if it light up brightly then most likely the ground in good
If all the above is working properly then I would try a new motor
Just for your info a test light is good for quick tested but the 12v light I use is very similar to this

The reason I use this is because it puts a proper load on the system and it can be set up remotely
Good luck

Usual suspect is the actual switch, on the centre console, where you place our finger to touch the switch to open / close the window. Contacts there get goo-ey from all the tea n cookies that spill into it. Slide a skinny exacto knife under the edge of the sqaure surround, gently pry up evenly all around. clean all the contact and switch with solvent stuff ie WD 40 if nothing better, sometime need to roughen up the glazed metal contact points. Do all this so very gently and delica-tely as hard to get replacement switch, and don't tear the wires off as you lift it out (fragile ancient wires).
But, since you had a previous post about the combination switch problems, your power window might be more complication from that.
We hoped you would have come to the Ikea meet last week, we had several people (experienced diy owners, and also Mardy) on hand to help diagnose yr electrical issues.
Cheers, Christine.

ive fixed two not working windows.. for both you must remove the interior panel. on one i used a specialty tool from Tardis Deli's tool box: a bamboo salad spoon (maybe it was their picnic box) i slid it in to the door and just wacked the motor with it and voila! (my logic was, wacking the heater blower motor is the usual fix for that, so must be true for windows too.
number two is i discovered a rubber piece thats inthe channel the window slides up and down in had come out and jammed itself in such a way thast the window strained for a while until it quit.. i just pulled it out and all good
