Which spring, if a spring at all

Hey guys,
Got my new tires on, (will post pics pretty nice upgrade). but after tightening the torsion bars, the saggy bottom ride has become even more obvious (bringing the front up must push down on the rear end?)
Even my weight on the back bumper makes a significant dent in the amount of travel the springs have, and a half hearted tug on the ladder will bring it up a fair ways. result, 2 dudes in the back or some gear and it your looking at the sky from the drivers seat.
I checked into the lovells as Jesse recommended, good price on springs but over 400$ to ship them here! So I am looking at other spring options
How about
http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-4372 ... front.aspx
Its a heavy duty front spring from a land rover defender 110 (which is what the lovells are spec'd for if I am right?)
Other option, same idea
http://www.britpart.com/Accessory.aspx? ... ryRef=1058
Shipping is obviously a lot cheaper from the UK or USeh.
If the lovells are made for the landrover, then these would be plausible?
Or as you posted Jesse
http://www.truckspring.com/suspension-p ... 60747.aspx
One question would be is this compatible with the lift kits you are making?
Thanks guys, Let me know if there is any knowledge out there!

My experience with Canada Spring has been very good, they re-arced and added one leaf to my rear spring sets. Excellent job, great service.

They did one L400 last year, took 3 weeks and the poor guy was overcharged by a LOT. I'll never recommend them again unless you do strictly leaf springs at which they are the best in the biz.
Coil springs = no
Leaf springs = yes

Awesome, will stay away from the custom fab.
Any opinions on the links I added? Any experience with Landy front springs fitting the back of the deli?

I got Ironman springs shipped from Oz for my L400 and they were a big improvement on the saggy stock ones they replaced but I think there are better options out there - I wish I'd gone with Lovells. I ended up paying over $400 and they brought the back end up considerably, about and inch and a half or so, but just barely leveled the van. I would have liked a little more. And in terms of load carrying they could be a bit stiffer. With a whack of camping gear in the back it drops a fair bit and I haven't even outfitted it with a roof rack and loaded that up yet.
I contacted a Lovell supplier in the US and they were going to be about $300 or something after shipping but it was too late, I'd already ordered the Ironmans at that point. For $165 I'd say the Ironmans are a great deal but the cost more than doubles after shipping unfortunately.
I also shopped around Vancouver for a spring shop that would fab some up and didn't have much luck. There was a shop in Surrey that was going to do it for about $350 but I had to take them one of the stock springs and wait about 3 weeks and that seemed too much of a pain in the ass. If I replace the Ironmans in the future that's probably te route I'd take though cause you can get exactly what you want. I just wish I'd kept one of the stock springs I pulled out to use as a model.
If you're interested I can get you the name of the shop in Surrey or the US Lovell supplier. On the run right now.
Kevin.

Hey Airgonzo,
YES! I would love the contact info for the Lovells in the USA... I was trying to get some but was talking to the guys in AUS, funny how $$ shipping from there can get!
$300 shipped is a no brainer! Let me know if you could. Mine is a lwb so I think I will need the extra stiffness the lovells offer.
Have you considered the upgrade to the airlift Jesse posted? that might give you the stiffness you need when weighted?
Cheers!

Here is the latest for the lovells
With my stock order:
Springs: $217.35
16KG@8KG: Air Freight portion of my stock order to Florida:$128
Shipping from Florida to Portland: $40.00
$385.35 Total-Figure Early November delivery
seems to steep for me for springs, and I still gotta get them from portland to vancouver or calgary!

Anyone got a stock spring??
I would walk around a wrecking yard I am sure there is a stock coil out there that will lift the L400 up and give a better spring rate......

Ok Some specs
for the Ironman +40mm
part number MITS025B Wire diameter 17 (skinny!) Free Height 390mm
I have found a couple other brands (bearmach in specific) with a thicker wire and higher spring rate. Still waiting on the Lovells specs.
I measured mine with nothing in the back of the van and had springs at 230mm, oem would be the 350mm (390- the 40mm lift). So I am about a third into the travel of the spring with nothing in the van, that sounds squishy... cant wait to pull em out to see if they still measure up to the original spec with no load.

I'm going to have a set of stock springs out of an LWB in my hands soon.
Once I do, I'll take them to the spring shop and get the spring rate on them.
Then the task of re-creating them locally. Once that is done, we won't have to import heavy springs from outside of Canada.
Give me some time brother.

Here is the lovell specs
RFR-26 (raised 40mm) FH = 380mm, wire = 17mm, rate = 240Lb/in
RFR-7 (standard height HD) FH = 362mm, wire = 17mm, rate = 240lb/in
I have seen reference of the wire going up to 21mm, but many folks seem happy with the 17mm of the lovells.
both lovells have 17mm wire, but I think the bearmach have some options for more and I think spring rates up to 350lb/inch plus
with the long wheel base I am tempted to go up a bit stiffer from even the lovells, or same spring rate but a full 2" over standard height
I can hold of a bit Jesse, any idea how stiff/tall you are going to look at fab'ing up the springs to?
cheers

same as the lovell's. on a LWB, they are perfect. on a SWB they will be a hair stiff.
patiently waiting ...
