Infant seat in Rotating Captains chair

Post by Marshal »

Hey Delica Parents,
I've had my Delica for a week now and my new little boy for about a week and a half. There are a couple of good posts on this site on how people have installed Infant and toddler seats in the middle row captains chairs but I was reading through the manual for the Infant seat that we bought and it says not to install the seat in a chair that can rotate. The manual for the toddler seat for my little girl doesn't mention anything about rotating seats. I could install the seats on the back bench seat but this would take away from valuable cargo space when we head out camping and fishing and put the kids out of reach. Has anyone attempted to or is it possible to immobilize the rotate function on the captains chairs?

Thanks,

Ryan

I'm confused. You could easily immobilize it by welding it in place but why? If an adult can sit in it without it rotating freely why should it cause problems to have the infant in the seat? Do you know exactly why an infant shouldn't be allowed on a rotating seat?

If you need to stop the rotation I would use a grade 8 bolt to do it. Not sure why? It should lock in position. bolt over weld (you can remove the bolt)

I have a baby seat in my l300. I bought a hook that bolts down into the frame of the chair that I got at canadian tire. It's a hook/bolt thingy that is made for carseats. It works just fine. I run the seatbelt through the chair and buckle her in. There are also the straps that come with the carseat that have there own hooks them that you can run through the seatbelt loops on the lap belts. I'll take pictures tomorrow. But don't worry about it. These seats and belts are made to keep people in their seats that weigh 200lbs +. 10-30 pounds in a car seat will be just fine. Be a safe driver.

I had the same question and concerns when my little girl was born. And like you, I wanted to do the right thing so I posted a question similar to your, (minus the rotating seat problem, which I think is a liability clause so the manufacturer doesn't get sued).
The good man, Delicat, replied with this link, which is how he solved his problem, which is how I solved mine. (now I don't have go and take pictures)!!

I hope this helps. Oh, and congratulations on the new arrival. I hope you have as much fun being a parent as i am having!

Thanks for the comments guys. The captains chairs do lock in place so I'm not quite sure why it would be a problem. I've got a call into the manufacturer to see what they have to say. I don't think it's a huge issue but since they make mention of it in the manual, depending on what they have to say I will probably err on the side of caution and temporarily immobilize the chairs just for the peace of mind.

Thanks for the congrats Bass, we are having lots of fun with the new addition. It's early, but I can't wait for camping season in the spring. Thinking about buying a boler to tow behind the Deli. Saw some cool pics of a member's Delica towing a boler on this site. Seems like the perfect setup.
